Can you believe this?

I don't believe the OP has the bass they've purchased? If so, this seems premature.

Even if the bass appears to be a cheap Chinese Fodera knock off, which are known to be not great. Who knows...maybe the dude selling it who did the conversion to 8 string did a great job and totally made that fingerboard true. Or it could be a hatchet job on a piece of junk. Won't know until it's in hand.

Basically the ad didn’t mention the elephant in the room, and there’s always someone that doesn’t notice it. The description omitted the biggest detail. Also, it wasn’t originally designed to be a bass so it’s hardly likely to be built to function as one.
There’s a reason people don’t convert guitars to basses, putting it politely, common sense.

There's a few folks on TB that do this pretty regularly and they are not lacking common sense. Guitar and bass bodies and necks are just chunks of wood. Nothing magical defining them.

I don't sell anything on eBay myself, but I do list things on Reverb including fx pedals I've made. I put the brand as DIY and make it plain that it's something I made and list some of the major components I've used. I also check the "I made this myself" box that Reverb provides. Maybe I'm just applying the higher standards of Reverb listings to the eBay marketplace. It's probably far worse on Alibaba.

Maybe attitudes are different between the UK and the US in this respect... I would consider that to be misrepresentation. If someone welded two ends of different cars together and didn't tell the buyer isn't that misleading?

If he doesn't state that its an original " X " and just posts a picture selling "as is", then there is no misrepresentation. Caveat Emptor is still a thing in the US. Buyer has the ability to ask questions.

I'd be curious as to what strings you could use?
The total tension of a set of Addario EXL 45-105 bass strings is 173lbs whereas a set of 10-46 guitar strings is 84lbs. That may be doable on a solid body, but a semi-acoustic? The guitar was never designed for such high tension. Let's try it with some heavy Labella flats. Oops!

:rolleyes::rolleyes:Misleading, no.

When you read the ad and think what is this and how was it assembled, you can ask questions. But if you don’t, you aren’t mislead, you just didn’t do your due diligence. Didn’t pay attention, maybe.

“I don’t know what I’m looking at and I didn’t ask, I’m mislead!”

A cobbled looking guitar shaped and sized no name instrument. You say you were mislead - what exactly did you think it was??? It’s clearly not a brand name, where do you think it could come from? What made you think they didn’t cobble it together?

Regardless, but I would say that there are
At what scale length? Not 25.5".

138lbs at 25.5" which is still considerably more tension than 84lbs
