Can you believe this?

Right? OP continually ignores everybody asking this.

Oh all right then, but all I will say is the instrument did not meet my expectations and I felt the listing was misleading.

Why is that all I will say?
  • The case was decided in my favour and I was refunded in full, so all fixed.
  • The seller has relisted the item.
  • The majority opinion here is that it's ok to list described like that, and who am I to argue with the TB jury?
  • So I'm not going to diss the instrument, just like I'm not going to trash the seller's feedback. And that's because I listened to you all, even though you thought I was ignoring you.
I still hate you all...

So instead of giving us a first hand account of what happened... you referenced a different listing from the same seller so we may speculate?

Hate is a 4 letter word.

The thread initial post obscured the premise, your post was every bit as misleading as the product description you took exception to. You did not link the product that you bought. you pointed at another item and expected the reader to divine your intent. Rather obtuse method to share info, and to garner support or guidance.

the angst is of your own making.

WHY? you could clearly state your issue rather than create a spelunking adventure. Inaccuracy in the ad is what started all of this, and then you misdirect and insult those who involve themselves.
Gamed

Who do you think I've insulted? You are just looking for an argument, aren't you? Welcome to the sound of silence.

I agree with the OP. It would be really easy for the seller to say he converts them from guitars to basses, and the fact he doesn't mention it shows that he knows he would have trouble selling them if he did. Why? Because very few people would be interested in a guitar conversion. Why? Because he would have to prove it's a decent bass, which it probably isn't.

I also knew immediately upon reading the scale length it was a conversion, so I don't think it was unreasonable for him to think a bunch of very bass educated people would know what he's talking about. Maybe he wanted to feel better that he didn't notice, which this should help him with.

Yes, Ebay is rife with worse deception and even fraud, but that doesn't mean the ad shouldn't do better--and be upfront it is a conversion. And no, it isn't illegal, but it doesn't have to be illegal to be deceptive.

Google "guitar bass conversion images".

Just fwiw, I remember the basses you're probably referencing, and I believe he makes them for his own consumption, and uses those "bass uke" strings on them. If he sold them, I would bet money he would explain what they are (I'm not going to search the TB sale section, but I'd be really surprised if anyone has ever sold a conversion like that, much less done it without making clear what it is. For good reason!)
