Carvin BX500: Part II

Status
Not open for further replies.
As long as the 2 ohm switch is working correctly, the amp shouldn't in theory be working any harder than when run at 4 ohms without the switch engaged.

I ran mine at 2.67 (8 ohm combo with a 4 ohm Dr. Bass 115LF) using the 2 ohm switch and the amp wasn't hot at all.

How's the reliability on these? I have an opportunity to buy one used with cover shipped for about $100 less than it would cost me to buy a new one with cover. Would that be a good deal or should I try to knock the price down a bit?

I'd go new. You get the warranty and don't have to wonder what former owner did to it.

If that doesn't worry you though, I'd pay up to $325 for a BX500 with cover in mint condition.

I'm with you - I should go new. That way if something goes wrong (which I keep hearing about) I can send the head back to Carvin. I figure anything that's going to go wrong would happen in the first year that's covered by the warranty.

He bought his BR515N last March and has maybe 10 hours of playing on it. It sounds like it's been in his living room all year. It doesn't sound like he's played it enough to see any problems, if they exist on this unit.

When did Carvin start putting titanium tweeters in these units?

Bought last march, it sounds like one of the early ones that may have problems...however, it may not. There are many a user who have the first-run BX500's with 0 problems. I myself will be buying a new one for the warranty and for the fact that since the amp has been around for a year+, they've most likely worked out the bugs by now. Seems they're having the same types of issues with the BX1500/B2000 amps right now.

Also, Carvin has an e-bay store that many don't know about:
http://stores.ebay.com/CARVIN-USA

They often offer repaired items WITH a warranty for less...or even brand new items that are on clearance for less.
Right now they have a BR515N for $599, brand new, slightly less than normally

PLUS $39 for Shipping and Without Cover

This amp that I have for sale has NO problems or ANY issues that I have read here on these posts. It is one of the later heads with the stenciled "D-Tech Power" under the the graphic EQ. It is still under warranty. I bought this amp AFTER all the reported bugs and this is one that I have has been issue free. Yes, it it has been in my living room with low hours, but has been turned on and used for practice at least 2 or three times a week for usually a half an hour . EastcoastEddie, I myself didn't buy a Ebay store model at a discount because I believe those are return items or worse the refurbed items.

Never needed any repair, never had any issues, DOESN'T have any issues and sounds great.

Why are you selling it? Just curious, thanks.

I never said that you did....as a matter of fact I don't even know who you are
I never mentioned anthing in regards to you or your amp.
If you're the guy that the other guy wants to buy the amp from, it has been totally anonymous up until now. He never said who was selling it or where it was being sold from....He just said that he "has an opportunity to buy". Perhaps you should state all that in your ad, that it is the latest version...yadda yadda yadda....if you didn't already, so as to keep questions like this from coming up. I didn't even look and I'm not planning to either.

You are implying that because it was bought in March that it may be a problem amp. And yes, you do not know anything about this amp...amps and electronics usually fail within the first weeks of operation if there are issues. If one questions the quality of Carvin, then they should look elsewhere anyway. There have been hundreds of these heads sold by Carvin and only a few had issues really. Seems to be people who spend their time here on TB. Carvin is a great company that stands by their products. And I did answer all questions asked about updates directly to the potential buyers...yadda yadda yadda..

Cheers!:hyper:

The studio I rehearse at has an amp that I use every week. Gigging in band with the Editor in Chief of Guitar Player Magazine so I can use any of the amps they have at the office for Bass Player, which I've done on the last couple of gigs. Used Stu Hamm's rig at the Guitar Player "Live" gig we had in the summer! That was cool...:hyper:

Don't need this big of an amp in my condo living room. MiniMark seems to be better for my purpose.

My amp has definitely been on and off enough times that if it had any of the issues, they would have surfaced already. It is like new in condition and never abused in anyway. Looks like out of the box...Still under warranty also.

I read the pages of part I and II of this thread, was a little more than only a few.

well, someone said that there are like less than 10 hours of use on it....I wouldn't call that "first weeks". That's more like 2days of practice. What I'm going by is that the amp is about 11 months old and has very little use on it. Granted I'm not exactly sure WHEN the D-tec amps started coming out, but it was a bit more recent than 11 months ago...(but please correct me if I am wrong)

If one questions the quality of Carvin, then they should look elsewhere anyway.
exactly.

I'm not confused. I'll be ordering a BX500 in the next couple weeks...

And I did answer all questions asked about updates directly to the potential buyers...yadda yadda yadda..
Excellent on your part. So why did a potential buyer bring up questions in this thread then? Maybe something wasn't clear to him.

-thanks.

I don't know why you're attacking me, dude...seriously. You came out of left field trying to knock me on my ass...go after the guy that brought YOUR amp into question!

Sorry, Not trying to knock you...not attacking you..I read the pages too.. Seems like there were a few members that posted many times on the topic to me.

well, someone said that there are like less than 10 hours of use on it....I wouldn't call that "first weeks". That's more like 2days of practice.

I never stated that about my amp.. It's has low hours ,yes , but more than enough hours so that it is run in ....

With much sugar on top ....
Sorry if I offended you...chill out ...it's only equipment..:hyper:

I feel like you were questioning that I was potentially selling a problem amp to a fellow member here on TB. I have had excellent dealings here on TB with excellent feedback. Everything I've sold or traded here were as described and everyone was more than satisfied with the equipment that they received.
