Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 2!

Wow, the chambered body is a pretty nice option to offer. It's nice to see Carvin offering features like this.

I just sold my SB5000 over the weekend and ordered a SB4000. However, I don't think it's worth the extra $350 to save a pound. I could maybe see going chambered on a walnut body though.

Well they're also throwing in a flame maple top and matching headstock. That and the chambered body for $350 isn't bad at all. However I suspect that they'll eventually offer a chambered body option without the fancy top. But for how much? $100? Guess we need to stay tuned.

I should have read the description a little closer, I didn't catch it the first time that the flamed maple top and headstock were included. That's not bad at all.

I'm so close to ordering an SB4000, but the huge selection of aesthetic options has turned my brain to mush. So many stunning designs in both these threads already and my first instincts only come up with all blackout or something that just looks like a stock Fender :hiding:

I can totally relate to your dilemma. I went for months kicking around what options would be best for me. I even considered the B50, BB75, and XB75. Eventually I made my choice and I hope to have my new SB5000 waiting for me when I get home from work tmr (let’s hope!).

Take your time and get what you want. And hey, strip down or tricked out, you can’t loose.

I am definitely going to take my time, no worries there. I'm a very methodical, cautious consumer. I typically do research for months before making a big purchase. I've only been mulling over the Carvin options for a week or so, but it took me about 3 months just to narrow it down to Carvin and the SB4000. I thought about going with an SB5000, since I haven't had a 5 string in about 10 years, but I'm not sure I could really fit it in practically as a primary bass with what I'm playing now.

I'm excited enough for the feel and tone of the SB series, regardless of the color scheme. This custom options overload is just a different version of the agony I experience when I have to buy clothes or shoes. I'd probably just have 7 versions of the same outfit hanging in the closet if my wife let me get away with it.

This new chambered option has got me going again :) I've got a 40th B-day coming up in a month and didn't want anything really, but this has sparked my interest.

My question though, has anyone played an alder versus a maple capped alder SB? I'm wondering how diff the sound is. I dig my straight alder SB5000

yea, i saw that lefty red bass, i think he said it's a ferrari red.
I'm thinking about Candy Red, Maple Fretboard, Pearl Pickguard, black Hardware, and Matched Headstock Color.... just wanna know if this is gonna turn out nicely. the concern i have is might it be too similiar to fender j-bass.
