I opted for the standard tone knob instead of the stacked mid this time around and it's just totally punchy and clean with an array of great tones!!!

I'm trying to decide between passive tone and stacked mid... Can you describe the differences in tone between the two? You might be the only person around with both flavors...

Just ordered my SB4000 a couple hours ago. Maple neck (tung oil)/alder body w/ classic sunburst (gloss), birdseye maple fingerboard and headstock, black logo/hardware/pg/pu/dot fret markers, stainless steel regular frets and a Hipshot detuner. Looking forward to putting her through the paces upon arrival.

I cobbled together a mach up in Photoshop from some gallery images. I did a few of these to help pick out my specs.

Wow, the chambered body is a pretty nice option to offer. It's nice to see Carvin offering features like this.

I just sold my SB5000 over the weekend and ordered a SB4000. However, I don't think it's worth the extra $350 to save a pound. I could maybe see going chambered on a walnut body though.

I ordered a SB4000 this week and the wait is already killing me.

I got weak and placed an order for a SB5001 this afternoon. Deep honeyburst flame on alder. I asked for the lightest piece of Alder they had. Birdseye maple board with diamonds. A 40th bday present to me. Should be here late January. Hoping it comes in well under 9lbs.

Say, does anyone know what's the string gauge the SB5000 comes set up with? I know Carvin has two nickel sets:

040, .060, .080, .100, .128
and
045, .065, .085, .105, .128

Either. It's all personal preference. Many will say that you can't hear the difference by ear, which I agree with. There are plenty of threads on TB dedicated to this debate, however.

I don't like their "Ebony" necks. I'd normally go with stock maple, but if you gotta be fancy, birdsye - not so much for tone as for looks.

These days, I'm leaning more toward Alder for bodies - bigger mids. Warm Mids + Slap = cool. Super crisp is so... '90s.
