Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 2!

The 5000 v 5001 call is tough. I will have both models in my home in the next week or so. If I got my info right, the 5001's bodies are supposed to be about a pound lighter than the straight alder wood 5000 body. But, the maple cap adds some weight in itself supposedly, so not sure if its close to a wash or not.
The diff is you are forced to go maple cap on the 5001 whether you want it or not right now. Maybe they will add plain wood caps at a later date? I don't know.
I went with the 5001 because I liked my 5000 but wanted one with nicer options (maple, finish) and the 5001 offered a possible weight reduction. If I hadn't wanted some of the nicer options, I wouldn't have ordered the 5001 just for the weight savings as its only a pound or so supposedly.

They have a chambered option on the bass builder for the SB5000 for $170.

Carvin gave me a finish date of Jan 31 for my SB4000, still waiting to hear something though. I'm debating whether to call and check on it. Being in sales for custom manufactured product I deal with customer service and complaints about lead times constantly, so I think I'm always a little hesitant to call and bug vendors when I order something myself.

I knew it! Carvin definitely should offer 60s placement as a no cost option - as pointed out, some people will buy another just for that reason.
As much as I like the tone of the SBs right now, as a fingerstyle player I'm pretty sure I'd love the tone from a rosewood / alder 60s spaced SB5000.....

From someone who played a 70's Jazz for 12 year, I have to wonder if that 70's spacing doesn't add to the sound of the B string that everyone seems to rave about on the SB5000. After being pretty disappointed in the B's on most the 5 strings I had owned at the time I always thought that my mid 70's Jazz would have sounded great as a 5 string because of how focused the E sounded. Just a thought.
Anyone know if the Hipshot ultralight clover style tuners (HB6C) will fit on the SB? I was getting ready to replace the de-tuner on my SB4000 with a standard tuner and thought the ultralight clovers might look good.
Give them a call. I bet they're about done. My original finish date was Feb 1 called yesterday to see what was up. Got an email today saying it will ship today.
Just picked up the SB4000 in the classifieds here. Black with ebony board, black hardware and painted head. Already made some quick changes - black pg and black beauties. It's a true black beauty now.
Had it for 2 days now and lovin it. I really like the neck. Fit and finish is excellent. Tone is great and I'm still exploring.
