Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 2!

That really sucks! I'd lose it in that situation. -1 for UPS.

Ok, I used to work for UPS at a hub in Indy, and I don't recall them having a public pickup office... so I THINK I might know what's happening here, and if so, they're not just screwing you.

I think the problem is it's still at the hub. I'm not sure any hubs have public pickup offices. That may be why they have to make at least one delivery attempt... it has to leave the hub and either be delivered, stay on the delivery truck for next attempts, or be taken to a UPS office where the recipient can pick it up... either after the delivery attempt limit, or if the recipient calls and says hold for pickup.

Okay, spent a little more time on this one, as I'm sure you guys will be able to tell. This one has reflections on the body and looks a lot more realistic, so I went back and added them to the red/blue ones as well. Makes all the difference, IMO. (I was at work when I did those, so they were a 10 minute job... for both. ;)) As it is, I still apologize for the roughness, I wish I could get my hands on original photography and do it right.

Here's the purple mockup I was talking about. Thoughts?

I recently picked this up from footie (delivered to my door, thanks Sean!).

I dig it, very nice for what in my quiver is a very inexpensive bass. Then neck is very nice - a little chunkier than I prefer, dig the matte finish.
Ebony board is nice, but the detail around the blocks is poor - can't hear this or see it from a distance.
The body design is quirky - reminds me of the old Warwick Fortress series, it does hang well and is comfy to play.
Volume pots are noisy when opened all the way, passive tone pot is nice - not the Sadowsky VTC but close.

Overall its a nice bass that hangs with my boutique basses like a red headed step child - lol.

Anyone modded the pups or pre yet? I'm thinking of swapping the pups for Sadowsky/Duncan singles and either the Sadowsky pre or OPB1

Sean ordered it sans pick guard which is cool if the controls are mounted from the rear :hiding: but with the control plate it looks like something is missing to me - I'm thinking of adding a red tortoise shell and would really welcome some input - TIA.

Yeah, absolutely! I have said it in another thread. Control plate without pickguard should be against the law. Tortoise is the way to go.

Thanks guys! Vic, no offense taken at all. I like it a lot, but I think I like the basic translucent purple bass in that Andy Grammer video better. Gotta let it soak in for a bit. Tonight I find myself wondering if I want the pickup cover or not. Back to Photoshop I guess! But not right now. I have to be up early to play bass for church. ;) lol

For sure! It's nice to be able to do them so I can visualize what I'm thinking about. When I did that purple one, I set up a proper Photoshop file, so mockups will be easier. :) The honeyburst is definitely a very pretty bass. The main reason I'm leaning away from that (or other similar bursts) is because I've got a Pbass V with the 3-color burst and it just looks a little too close to that. I'm looking for something different. ;)

I had the same type of issue getting mine from remy here on the classifieds. Still had to ship from CA and made it all the way here to be delivered last Saturday....Even got the message that it was out for delivery....then received an update a few hours later on the adverse weather condition and delivery was the next business day. Find out on Monday that Fedex ground service in my area is OFF on Monday.....waited until Tuesday. Man that wait sucks and I didn't have to wait for the build. Remy had one of my 2 build choices sitting on the TB classifies....lucky me :-) All the time I'm waiting I kept hearing Tom Petty in my head and I'm not a Petty fan

Wow! I've spent hrs over the last two days going over every post and looking at every photo in this forum (and the previous one) trying to get ideas for something a little different. So many options that I just keep delaying getting my order in...I'm just making myself crazy... Now I see this! This may very well be it! I never would have thought of purple (w/black burst edges?) and I don't typically care for gold hardware, but this bass just knocks me out!!! Thanks for the idea fivestringgecko!

Thanks man! The mockup of that purple one made me realize that it's not quite what I'm looking for, but I'm glad it helped you! Like yourself, I'm still weighing options and colors and such, so being able to do them helps me narrow my focus. I want to make sure I get it right, you know? :)

I've got a gig coming up at the beginning of March, so I'm thinking that money will be the deposit on my SB5000. I'm getting closer on colors, but still have a couple things to decide on as well.

Does anyone have an opinion on the regular neck vs. 5-piece? I've read that 5-piece necks are supposed to be more stable, but I've got 3 basses with 1-piece necks that seems pretty stable. Course, I live in Denver with pretty low humidity.

Not sure how it'll sound with a fuzz since I don't have an SB, but the SB basses sound killer in every video I've seen, even through just my headphones. Tell me they won't sound awesome live? ;)
