Fixed them for you. :)

Gotta' be careful with cutting/pasting urls AS DISPLAYED in other posts in TB... they get truncated, so you gotta' edit the post or get it from the "quoted" text in a response to a post (even if you don't plan to respond to the post and are just doing it to get the url.) :)

curious...how was it noisy? was it typical single coil hum? like when one pickup is solo'd?

I dig it, very nice for what in my quiver is a very inexpensive bass. Then neck is very nice - a little chunkier than I prefer, dig the matte finish.
Ebony board is nice, but the detail around the blocks is poor - can't hear this or see it from a distance.
The body design is quirky - reminds me of the old Warwick Fortress series, it does hang well and is comfy to play.
Volume pots are noisy when opened all the way, passive tone pot is nice - not the Sadowsky VTC but close.

any chance of a close up at the blocks? was thinking of getting this option on a future order, but may have second thoughts if they're not done well.

How is the passive tone different than the VTC?

I read on the Carvin site of something similar and apparently
the trim pots sometimes need to be adjusted.

Good to hear! Hopefully the "adverse weather conditions" didn't adversely affect your bass. :hmm: Keep us posted.

I'll also be interested to hear if there's any sound difference between the 5000/5001.

More mockups!

Colors just haven't been working for me, so I put together a Spalt top version. It adds the $$$ to the price tag, but I'm really digging it... I think this might be the one. I'm leaning away from the pickup guard on this one, too.

SB5001 - Chambered - Flamed Maple on Alder/Maple Board/Maple neck - J99As - VVTB/T controls (standard) - Carvin SS strings

You make this one of those baffled bodies and it's suddenly worth it... And spalt does look very cool...

Got my SB5001 in just now. Uploading pics now, but gotta warn I am a terrible photographer :) It's not as nice of a top as the 4 string I was trying to model it after had, but eh :) The big thing I noticed right out of the box is it is much lighter than my SB5000. The SB5000 is 10lbs. and the SB5001 is 8.5lbs. and feels much lighter.

Thanks for the clip, sounds good!

Man that's a tough call. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that the second time through of each is the 5001. Just sounds a little more "piezo" (that's the only word that I can find that comes close to the description), maybe just a tad more acoustic.

That's pretty impressive that they sound that close, since the 5001 shaves 1 1/2 pounds of the weight! I figured for sure there would be a more significant tonal difference.

Well I guess no one else is coming :)

Bass #1: SB5000
Bass #2: SB5001

At this point, there are only two things I don't like about the SB5001. One the neck profile is slimmer than the SB5000. Not a lot, but different. I like the way the SB5000 sits in the palm of my hand, I feel just a little gap with the SB50001. Second thing is a have to crank the bass control way up on the SB5001 to get the same amount of relative bass out of it. I'm not sure if that is an electronics things, a string thing or just a difference between the basses.

Aside from that, the SB5001 seems better in most every way. It's lighter, feels like it has better overall construction, the action is insane, and the materials are gorgeous. I've literally never picked up a bass that was setup so nicely from the factory. It's crazy. It's setup much better than my SB5000 and I had to work a while to get that where it is.

It really seems as if Carvin has stepped their game up a bit since the introduction of the SB series. This is just a nicer overall bass than my SB5000. I'm guessing this is not the case, but it feels as if a better builder built the SB5001 than built my old SB5000. Everything is just stepped up a notch.

I really want to put some DR Hi-Beams on the SB5001 and do an apples to apples comparison, but it sounds so good as it sits I might not bother. The one thing that really sticks out to me is the low B on the SB5001 is hands down better than my SB5000. I can't figure out what it is, but its just better. Makes me want to use it more.

Pretty smitten with this dang bass so far :)
