I've also read a few comments on the Carvin site about the SB pickups being really hot. This had me concerned a little, but all of the clips I've heard don't seem to give me this impression. I was watching the Hugh McDonald SB5000 clip again last night and noticed his SB5000 seems to be passive. The SB5000s only show to be offered on Carvin's site with active electronics, but I guess they even have the option of going fully passive on this bass like the SB4000.
The weight has me concerned as well. I plan to order my SB5000 this friday, and I will be calling to place the order to specifically talk to the rep about weight. Carvin's site specs the SB5000 at 9.5 lbs, which would be fine with me. I have heard some 11+ lb reports on the SB5000, and I know I wouldn't be happy with a bass much over 10 lbs. I'm hoping Carvin will be able to hand select a body that is on the lighter side, I am going with the swamp ash body.
