Our Saturday gig came very close to being cancelled because of snow - travel on many British roads this weekend has been a nightmare. But it went ahead, and once we all got there it turned out great. Nice venue, fun crowd, we got fed really well (full four course Christmas dinner, in fact), free bar and I wasn't driving, excellent pay, some very good laughs with my bandmates... what more can one ask? I'd love more regular gigs that are in the same league as this. Totally cool.

We're doing a gig this week (on 30th)... it's starting to feel like a dream-gig (private party, arty people...)

anyway... should we go for Greek-style or for Nuke-style?

Just found out about our upcoming gig on Jan 15th which we were direct support for got even better, The headliner had to cancel and we will now get the headline and the pay. BONUS! I'll post back to let you know how it goes. Heres a couple youtube links I just uploaded from our last gig.

NYE gig with my cover band, LIPS, tonight at the Bull Pen in Redondo Beach! I'll be sporting my new Squier VM Jag bass and my VT Bass pedal... hope I'm not too distracted!

Tonight's gig: with Brandy Stills, country at the Moose lodge in Leesburg... I'm having a weird urge to bring out the Kramer metal-neck bass for tonight. Guess it couldn't hurt...

The Kramer played well, not counting the neck dive. Tone is greatly improved due to active EMG pup. It's still zingy, though I was told it had a full bottom too. I don't think I ever heard that w/the old pup!

Played NYE in Brunswick at the Eagles club. It wasn't too full, but we had a great time anyway! The sub drummer did a good job, the first set of the new year was jammin'! That's a good omen!

Next gig: Bare Bones on Rt.40 in Ellicott City 1/8, a duo (I think) w/guitarist Gary Brown.

I got a gig Jan 7th in my hometown 3 minutes from the house 8:30 start last time we were there had a decent turn out. Most of the major snow piles are gone so hopefully we will get a good turn out. Weather calling for snow showers Friday night but nothing crazy.RTS Add: Well it is snowing this morning calling for 1-3 inches stopping sometime this afternoon so I am hoping the gig will still be on. On top of that we added a show for Sat night last minute thing. either way looking forward to rocking this is our first of many shows scheduled in 2011. OK Friday gig was cancelled and re-scedule due to icy road condition! Sat started to snow when I was putting my gear in the car. Got there around 8 gig start normal start would have been 9:30 but, THE JETS are on and that is not going to happen. We speak to the owner and set up everything with a 1/2 time show in mind So our lead guitarist comes in with his guitar surround Leds "he had this idea to do all of our equipment his was the test" really looks cool check it out in the video also I am rocking my Dean "Hollywood Z" which I do not normally gig with I am going direct to the board using a BEHRINGER V-TONE BDI21 BASS DRIVER with 4 Bose subs I will be posting soon. 1/2 time show idea work out great! The people thought it was cool to have to band play and then go back to the game. At the end of the game as the coaches took the field we hit the first chord rocked the happy Jets fans till 2Am got home at 2:45 showered, ate, checked out the videos from the night and went to bed around 3:30 here is the video

Okay I have 2 shows this weekend 1st in my hometown couple blocks from the house JKS boathouse nice restaurant good food
Early start 8:30PM so home early as well. The second is also local to me less than 3 miles from the house. Bogey’s Sports Pub in Clifton always a great place for us a lot of local NJ musician that we know, come out to the show and usually before the night is over they join us on stage always a packed house and always a fun time. I will check back on Sun to let you all know how it went.

Next gig: Bare Bones on Rt.40 in Ellicott City 1/8, a duo (I think) w/guitarist Gary Brown.

Turned out to be a trio, and the drummer is an old friend of mine. It was great to see him & jam with him again. He's had some health issues, had to cut back on gigging, and his playing is not as vigorous as it once was, but his taste and timing is still excellent.

Next gigs: tonight, blues-rock with Gary Brown & a different drummer right here in Frederick at the Bentz Street Sports Bar, and tomorrow it's my country band, Brandy Stills, in Lovettsville VA at the Game Club.

Played a show Friday night at a local club that's more of a dance club. We played downstairs and the dance club was still going on, blaring bass and all, upstairs. Nonetheless we still packed the place to capacity. We were second of 3 bands and the guy running sound told us this is his first time ever running sound. We ended up getting our set cut short because of excessive feedback, then as soon as the 3rd band went on the crowd cleared out. It probably dropped from 160-180 down to about 30 or 40. This is my punishment for doing charity gigs.

Seems to me if you pack the house and 3/4 of them leave when you do, that's a positive sign that you put on a kick-ass show, at least -- take the affirmation!

It went very well, we actually made a bit of money despite playing for the door on short notice. One small mishap: my amp overheated at the end of the second set. That's never happened before. I thought it had fried, so I raced home for my other amp rig. Turns out first amp is OK. (See my "Killed my Hartke 3500" thread in the "Amps" forum for details) Hopefully we will play there again, with more advertising time beforehand.

It was a fundraiser for the Game Club. Kind of a steep cover charge, but good attendence anyway. We used house PA speakers. Somebody had donated two 1x15 + horn tops and two 2x18 bottom cabs to the Club, so we didn't need to unload ours. They booked us back in May.

Next gig: tonight, the Marsh Brothers at the Potomac Grill in Rockville MD. It'll be cold out, but at least we dodged the snow they were predicting.

The show last night was a complete screw job.

We arrived at the venue with our gear, and no one was around. Our guitarist than got a call from his girlfriend saying that the headliner band posted a message on facebook claiming the show had been canceled due to a sick drummer. We waited around for a bit, and than we heard someone inside the venue, the sound guy opened the door and let us in.

We asked him about the situation, he hadn't heard anything, as far as he was aware the show was a go. He tried to get a hold of the promoter to see what the deal was, but the promoter was MIA. We found out another band from the bill had dropped off, also from a case of sick drummer. And the other guy on the bill (who's a solo guitarist) is under the impression that the whole thing is canceled.

So the sound guy gets a hold of his boss, who says we can play if people are buying drinks and if we want to, and we have until 9 to see if anyone shows up. So we decide, we have our gear there, we might as well play a show even if we're the only band.

The solo guitarist shows up (without gear) just to see his friend that works there. He finds out that we're still playing, so he goes home to grab his gear.

So than a few people who wanted to see us showed up. The guitarist opened the show. Than we headlined by default. The show went good, there were only about 15 people there, the whole thing was very awkward.

So in the end. We played our first headlining show by default, the promoter bailed with no word. So no promoter = no door charge = no pay. Needless to say I'm not very happy about it.

So the amp trouble was the least of your worries!
should have called it off when you knew no one else was coming or worked out some kind of cash deal with the club if you decided to play and save the night for them if not would have walked away.

We probably would have called it off if we knew ahead of time. But there is no wi-fi in our jam space, so while everyone else was made aware via facebook we were busy breaking down our gear and taking it to the venue. By the time things were confirmed we had our gear inside. So we decided we might as well play since either way we'd already made the trip, and would have to take the gear back anyways. If anything it was an opportunity to refine our set and stage presence a bit more. Plus we had just re-adjusted EQ's in the band and we were curious to see how things panned out live. It was basically a practice show for a few close friends.
