"Check In" here before and after your gigs this weekend!

We did our monthly gig at our local supper club. It went pretty well. Suprisingly, there was more of a crowd than I expected. We really are just background noise so people can drink and BS in the bar before and after dinner.
We can't complain though, we get paid, we bring in our minimal setup (small PA, electronic drums, guitar, bass, no amps, no lights, 3 mics) I use a Sansamp BDDI and the bass always sounds great (in spite of my playing). Plus, it's free drinks all night and at the end we get a trip through the Friday night buffet.

Anyway, at the end of the night, the founder and former owner of Tombstone pizza gave the band a very nice tip. Apparently, he is a big fan of the group Alabama and we did the song, "Lady down on love"

Breakdown took 25 minutes and we were out there door, in bed by 11:30pm.

all in all a good night.

Tonight will be the first live show with my new band. My guitar player hasn't been on stage in 12 years, so he's pretty nervous. My singer has never been a band before, so he has those first show jitters. The rhythm section, however, is calm cool and collected:smug:. We will be playing at a medium size bar tonight and tomorrow night. I will check back with a full report.:)


Edited to Add: I forgot to mention the bar is called Hot Shots, and is located in Midland, TX

I played my first 3 set night in 10 years on Friday. Also my first gig as a full time bass player (yeah, I'm a guitarist that made the transition).

Cover gig (classic rock with a few newer songs), 100 a man plus bar tab, local dive bar. I had some equipment problems for the first song, and the gig was being videoed for local cable access, so that kinda bummed me out. New sound guy, the mix was pretty bad, but the crowd was receptive.

We had some pretty loose starts and stops for the songs, but I guess we played ok, because the bar wants us back and is going to kick in an 50 bucks for us to pay our sound guy. We have to work on our transitions and playing songs in groupings with no dead air.

It was fun to see girls bumping, grinding, and groping on each other during songs where it would seem inappropriate (Carry On Wayward Son, for instance).

Overall, it's fun to be back in the game. This coming weekend, it's my first full weekend (Friday and Saturday night - bigger club). Wish me luck!

Our show went really well, a little rough is some spots but I don't think it was noticeable. The place was packed both nights, and we pretty much owned the crowd. We were invited back, the owner said we were the best band he had had there in a very long time!

Big gig this past weekend. Fund raiser for a Twin Cities club. Great turnout. We had the crowd dancing from the first song until the end. That always makes for a fun evening. We drove 195 miles for the gig and it was worth it. Paid very well including gas.

They liked us so much, they booked us for their dance next year halfway through the gig. We played very well, we really sounded like a tight 3-piece. It was awesome.

Plus, had really pretty girls up front grabbing their breasts and offering them up to the band. Ok,that did not suck!!!!

I am late with this post: 2 gigs, two different clubs, back to back. Fri & Sat. I AM the guitar player so if you want, you can go onto the next post, or stay and suffer.

First night: Hamlin Pub Rochester...Bass player to me: "dude turn down". After covering Rock 'n' Roll by Zepplin. He said: "I could barely hear you". The singer cut into the chorus of Brown Sugar early, right as I was getting my guitar solo going. Left me hangin' out there. I was pissed!

2nd Night: D.B. Cooper's Madison Heights...Bass player says to me: "dude, turn down". I refuse. Later he says: "your tone is perfect".

Singer again cuts me off during Brown Sugar solo. I let him have it after the set. He got all cranky with me and wouldn't talk the rest of the night. Hell, I'm the one who was left hangin' out there.

I have found that when folks in my band do not correct their mistakes, I just have to take the song over until they get it right.

P.S. folks love us anyway, we are booked thru July this year!

I did play bass in this band for 4 years...I have some street cred.

Not a gig, but several of us "weekenders" are getting together for the first time on Saturday, after finding one another through Craigslist.

Given that most such ventures have a life-span roughly equal to that of a may-fly, I certainly won't hold my breath that it's going places, but it is astonishing that I can find anyone else, let alone three others, who have similar interests to mine (prog and fusion).

And the drummer's a twenty-something (the rest of us are gunning for social security within the next few years)!:bassist:

Saturday, my country band has our 1st gig since NYE! I'd be terminally rusty if not for my other band. We're playing in beautiful Remington VA. at a benefit for a kids' baseball team. :cool: I can't wait! Many a MILF in attendance, I'll wager! :cool::cool:

Not a weekend gig, but my band Razorblade Monalisa is playing on Tuesday evening in Sacramento at a small venue called On the Y (6701 Fulton Ave. near Fair Oaks Blvd.) We're opening for Gene Loves Jezebel and Spear of Destiny. And it's a like a 5 minute drive from my apartment, which is nice and convenient. I plan to gorge myself on fresh raw salmon earlier in the day; it seems to really help keep me sharp and focused onstage. Must be the omega-3s...

Prior post got seriously cut off.....To sum up? Tuesday sub at open mic, no contest. Wed. open mic/house band, still able to do math and sing madrigals, Sub gig last night ,Thursday, got to bed 3am, at day job now,And becoming dyslexic. got 3 set cover gig tonight, 3 story walk up to a wood/glass ballroom not bringing any serious(read;big ass bass amp) firepower. (Wondering about the #3 also). Saturday night Elvis gig, supper club, long night of Elvis but the food's usually very good. Sunday back to my regular open mic/house band deal. The rest of the band want's to know how I do it.........Trick is to not stop and ask yourself that question. I do love what I do.

Playing a Battle of the Bands tonight... was supposed to be 9 bands, then we heard it was 12, now they are saying it's 13. Cost us $50 to register; prizes are:

1st Place $300 / Hit song recording by Bridge Studios
2nd Place $200
3rd Place $100/Prizes

We thought this might be a good opportunity to maybe get some free credit at our favorite studio, and probably make a few bucks in the process. I'm kinda peeved about adding on more bands, as it makes it that much harder for us to win, but we'll see how it turns out. Have you guys ever heard of paying to enter a Battle of the Bands before? By the way, the prize money is coming from a $5 cover, of which the 4th-13th place bands see none.

We're playing 15 minutes (...?), and the gig is about 35 miles away... haha. How do we get ourselves into these things...

I'll check in after and let you all know how it goes. Fortunately we're using an electronic drum set for this show, and the PA is provided, so at least as far as schlepping gear, we have it easy.

My buddy Joe (guitar player (really good)) and I have a duo. Eventhough I hate using a drum machine, I'm pretty good with it and it works cheap. We're playing in a little bar that is part of a store called the Handi-Mart. Tonight I'm gonna play my frettless for the 1st time in yrs on a gig. I just feel like it's time for me to start using it. I'm not even gonna bring a freted bass to the gig.

Tonight, we are at the local Eagles, should be a good night.......230 seats sold already, just found out a busload of 40 more will be there too. Firecode says 275 max....shhh, don't tell. :ninja:
