OK, here it goes. The 1st 'Reunion' gig of Centerfold (80s covers) is tonight @ the Monroe. 4th & Monre in Hoboken, NJ. I'm psyc'd, rehearsal went great the the other night. The "offt draggers" had their act together and we sounded great. Damn, I want to leave for the gig right now. :hyper::bassist: They were actually a pretty big draw, back in the day. A lot of the old crowd seems to be coming too. I'm the only "new" member, but I'm not worried.

Replying to my own post, how pompous :atoz:

gig went great. Small Hoboken Club, we had 350-400 prople there. very nice. A couple of slight rough spots in some songs, but nothing the audience would've noticed. All in all, we sounded tight and well rehearsed. I'm happy with that. One weakenss has popped up though. We need more up-tempo, danceable songs. A lot of our material is medium to slower 80s pop, folks wanted to dance more. We can fix that though, no problem. All in all, a successful 1st gig :)

Blowout of the year coming up this Saturday! Huge party my brothers have been throwing for the past 25 years or so. Seven bands, hundreds of people, an ocean of beer, lots of friends I haven't seen since last year. My band plays at 9, but I'll get there about 2 pm (my rig is the house rig) and I will no doubt still be there 12 hours later. I can't wait! :hyper:
If I survive, I'll report next week. :D

so last week my newest project, Link Removed, made it's world debut playing it's very first gig ever live on the radio on KEXP.

ok, in full disclosure, this band began as a sort of on-air joke, an "american-idol"-style audition for listeners to form an old-timey jug band to be the official KEXP "House Band". Well, the momentum started rolling, and the joke has become reality...

Our 2nd gig was over the weekend, an opening slot on the 6th Annual KEXP BBQ - which featured The Dandy Warhols, Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts, Helio Sequence, Common Market, and The Saturday Knights.

And we just nailed it! A Jug Band performing at the hippest indier-than-thou event in the NW.

We threw down 4 songs (a traditional "Minglewood Blues", a cover of the Dandy Warhol's "Minnesota", dropped a beatboxin' jug version of The Saturday Knight's new hit single "The Gospel", and closed it out with Mungo Jerry's "Baby Jump").

The crew in The Saturday Knights (up-in-comming Seattle-based hiphop act backed by an indie rock band) just freaked when they heard our version of their song (which KEXP has been blowin up on the airwaves all summer long). During their set, they invited the jug band up to jam on a hiphop-meets-indie rock-meets-jug band version of that tune.

Our 3rd gig will be headlining the 2nd day of the Nature Consortium's Arts-In-Nature festival in 2 weeks.. and we've only had 5 practices total as a band at this point!

In other gig-related news, my main band, Link Removed, continues its "2nd Wednesday of the Month" gig at Mulleady's Irish Pub in Seattle tonight... it's more of a practice that happens to be catered with free food and booze, and an audience.. good times.

Heading out in just a bit to set up for tonight's gig.........just a local "steak fry" fundraiser......should be fun, in my hometown, probably some old friends.

Tomorrow, a small festival gig........"The Tomato Festival"!! No kidding! I'm gonna get sauced! :rolleyes: (Just kidding) :D

I survived! Got there about 2, my rig (two 1x15s run by Alembic F-1X pre into a QSC pwr amp) handled the lows, and my brother's rig (Mesa head and 2x12 Bag End cab) took the highs. This setup yielded a mighty badass tone, I must say! The first band's bassist used his Eden head and 4x10 cab with one of my 15s tagging along.
Our 1-hour set went pretty well, right up until the main power box for the stage fried. We still had a couple of songs to go, but at least we got 85% of the set in. I got to sing both my songs. They had to rewire the power, and then get the next band on.
But in spite of that mishap, a splendid time was had by all! I got my share of the ocean of beer, and our percussionist brought his delicious special barbecued chicken. A most excellent hang indeed.

My band's playing a small town festival today. We get an hour long set, so plenty of time. I'm not expecting too many people to show up, but it should be fun.

We played the same place yesterday, and at a bar that night so I'm pretty sure it'll just get better.

Wish us luck!

played at wedding gig at the base of Mt Rainier on saturday with my bluegrass band, Spare Rib & The Bluegrass Sauce. Our fiddler wasn't available, so it was a nice challenge to perform all the fiddle tunes, sans fiddle (luckily our mandolin player was able to play most of the fiddle parts, and the groom (who is a great bluegrass guitarist) sat in on like 6 songs. Oh and the PA wouldn't power up, but luckily we roll with two complete PA systems, so 20mins of rewiring, we got back on track and played TWO 2-hour sets! and after we shutdown the mains, we continued around the campfire acoustically for another 2 hours, until the bride's father finally came out and shut the party down at 4am. After almost 6 hours of straight playing, my pluckin' finger was SORE! Highlight of the evening was a 35min medley of Wheel Hoss > Cumberland Blues > Roadkill > Dueling Banjos > Cumberland Blues (reprise).. wish i had the recorder going for that jam!

then on sunday, i had a gig with the KEXP house band, The Dexter Street Stompers, getting juggy at the Nature Consortium's Arts-In-Nature Festival in West Seattle. Sadly, the rains came and kept the crowd to a minimum, but we threw down and had a fun time playing to like 25 ppl. and we debuted our first original jug band song called "Put Your Mouth On My Jug", (here's a verse of this new hit song: "My girl sure likes to blow, She can go all night long, But she needs me around for sho', She don't have a jug of her own")

next gig is this thursday at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard, with the Dexter Street Stompers, playing with Slim Cessna's Auto Club. Should be a good time!
