Another color that works well with matching headstock, imo, is CAR or trans red... Maybe even trans blue like Jimmy's BK signature basses. What you do you think?

I like a trans red (or blue) finish. Here is a "wine-burst" finish I specifically requested from some other builder...

Actually I just remembered that the Low End had a trans blue RA5 for sale last year. I'd love to see this trans blue finish on an LM5 with a pearloid guard...

Totally OT, but I hate the way that BAV kinda' hangs off the back edge of the body.

+1...I've seen that a lot with BAV's on jazz basses. Sometimes it's just the angle of the pic though - the HMR jazz I used to have looked like that in some pics, but in reality the bridge was completely on the body. But in the above pic it looks like that BAV really is off the edge.

+1. I wish it was a tad bit forward but it's not really "off" the body but that's where the bevel is so it looks that way... I am actually going back and forth with the bridge swap on my new RA5. I put on a BAV at the shop on Wed first just for looks (I love how massive it looks) and ended up really liking the way it sounded... But I also like the simplicity and elegance of the Hipshot... What to do, what to do.

the pics of that lm vision linked from the lowend are at a pretty severe angle and the strings dont look anywhere near as off as this p bass

I bet that's because of the strings on the grooves on the bridge and not because of the mounting of the bridge or neck pocket.

IE just pull them over.

Note that Jimmys finger is on the G String pulling it over..
I do know that all the basses at the show were prototypes with the exception of about 2..
all have the new headstock and the one shown below has the multi bolt .... a little off .. perhaps..
but so was my 94 (other brand ) 5 string.. by a little..
I have seen 2 post prototype basses of the same style this week and all things are just fine as far as i can tell.

I still think he should sell these basses even as yourself finds a uniqueness as on this bass.

I was at the shop the other day and we started to work on my new bass. Well the neck was done a long time ago...
I picked a lightweight piece of Alder for my LG / custom.

Raw Glued Body

One Of a Few Template Changes, This One Is For The Pickup Route.

Control Cavity cut

Bass is Rough, But I wanted to know an Approx weight of the final bass So we put the parts together to weigh it. I prefer lighter weight basses like my older vintage stuff.

Putting the Slab on the scale, strings, pickups all hardware intact. Wood work not complete

Belly cut, Arm Cut and edge rounding is not done yet. So I'm guessing it will be about 8.5 to 8.75 pounds. Perfect for me. And this is NOT a chambered body.It is a full size 5 string J bass solid alder body

Test Run sounded good. I did a crummy video of it all on my cheap cannon camera. We will try to post it after the weekend.

This is to replace my old LPB LG5... I have no idea what color we will do yet.. Possibly a Nitro SB.. I am open to suggestions
