so peter, i was thinking about your lg5 and how you said its more modern because of the fretboard. i thought id share some thoughts about some neck swapping i did on a bass.

ive got this mij fernandes 4 string jazz thats got a basswood body and nordstrand pickups in it. its more scooped, bright and modern than an alder jazz. just to mess around, i put an old 80's mij squire jazz neck on it. it got slightly warmer/rounder, but it was extremely subtle. its still sounded like the same bass. today im shipping out the body of my 64p to get refinished, so i took the neck off of it and put it on the fernandes so it could stay under string tension. that bass doesnt sound any different than it did with the japanese squier neck. youd think the old neck with the brazillian board would impart a big tone differnece, but it didnt. ive also had that set of nords in an ash jazz and the overall tone wasnt as bright, so the only conclusion i can have is that that particular body is like 90-95 percent of what caused the tone of that bass.

id really wonder how much of a tone difference is really coming from the different rosewoods.

That is very interesting. Maybe my particular piece of alder has a different tonal footprint.

That being said I hope to have the opportunity to get this bass in the same room with an Indian board LG5 to really get a better sense of just how different it is at some point.

Since everything about my LG is standard outside of the board, I assume with out evidence that it is the board that makes it different.

id say unless you swapped necks though, you still couldnt really isolate it to the board.

ive actually got 4 basswood mij fernandes here right now. 2 4's and 2 5's. one of the 5's sounds like an alder bass. the other 3 all have more of a scooped basswood sound but to varying degrees.

And Pete, I would convince him to stop making guitars if they weren't awesome too! In fact, after my LG5 I think either a KBP or Tele-style guitar is coming.

Well actually the 5/32 must be for the truss rod at the body end ( 21st fret ) like majority of AC basses.

I ACTUALLY NEED THE HEX SIZE for the bullet truss rod ( one piece maple neck ) at the headstock.

I bought a 5/32 today and it is way too big

Not many bullet truss rods out there.

So could anyone please give me the proper size, please.

as a last resort I will call Jimmy,

I have one of very few bullet truss rod basses from Jimmy, mine is most definetily 5/32....To be clear it is one size larger then 9/64 and one size smaller then 3/16s on my clearly labelled set of wrenchs.

Maybe Jimmy didn't use standard sizes?

i noticed sets that did not go down to the .050, but i`m ok for that size as i bought 3 of them today and bought (3)

5 over 32nd

Is it possible that there are 2 bullet truss rod sizes ?

My LM Deluxe is a 5 bolt neck plate ( shaped like the`HOME PLATE in baseball ) and stamped EXHIBITION Model.

Is your neck plate a 4 bolt ?

Wouldn`t it be surprising that there are 2 different hex size bullet truss rods ?:hmm:

OOPS, I fat fingered it... Hey Peter I think you need to take a road trip to NJ, my RA5 alder body is extremely brite like your alder body LG5, I also just traded my LM5 for that Blue LM5, or I guess it can be called
a RA5-Ash...black blocks and binding, and what a sleeper I tweeked it up and it sounds KILLER, new strings and spent a good portion of the day tweeking the neck and especially the pickup height and this baby is a spank monster :D

Damn now you have a rash too, it must be contagous.

I do need to make a road trip so we can compare and contrast soon...
