Surely not bad in an absolute sense, but surely not optimal for a J bass that attempts to achieve a relatively classic tone. Really not my thing, probably my least favorite pre of all time.
However, I agree, the RA is kind of an unusual spec anyway, and Hadrien surely has a strong 'voice' in his playing. That spec, plus Hadrien, plus different pre and pickups... not surprising it has a different tone than we A-C guys are used to.
That's Mitches, as is the Rootbeer LM. Both are fantastic instruments. I played both of them.
True, but IMHO(!!) it looks bad... at least the way it was done on these basses. I've already given some suggestions on how to do it slightly differently that I think would look a lot better. Let's see if it takes.
I also like Dave's suggestion to simply route from the back, but of course that won't help this particular KBP.

Cool. BTW, the silver one in the back in this pic is that "dedicated" bass I played (don't wanna' search for the OP right now, but maybe they'll chime in.) That bass was TOTALLY BADA$$. One of the punchiest AC's I've played in a long time. All the AC's there were really great, but this one just seemed to have a litte more of the "notes just seem to kind of explode out of that bad boy" thing going on. He should be very very happy with it.

I had hoped you would check it out and post your thoughts
about the bass here. I REALLY appreciate it.
It does make the wait a little harder though. I had hoped to
have it in time for my gig on Saturday but the bass probably
won't make it back to the shop until later this week and
Jimmy would like to take pics of it for his web site.
I'll probably get it some time next week.

LM gas has once again got the better of me and I figured I'd offer up my KBP-5 here in trade for a LM-5 here before posting in the classifieds. Finished May 2008, nitro, painted by his ex fender guy in NYC, bent plate, 8.5 lbs on the bathroom scale. Always strung with flats so no fret wear.

Dan, OMGOSH, I don't mean to make it worse, but seriously, you are gonna' be so friggin' happy with that bass. IMHO anyway.
So the bass at the Aguilar booth was 18mm at the bridge? Dang, no wonder I liked that one so much. My ken smith bsr5j is 18mm goodness
Guys hipshot sells slotted saddles that pop on B style and vintage bridges in less than a minute and will allow standard 19mm,wider and narrower spacing...

I played the 18 mm and found it to be very comfy.. I can do either one (18 or 19 ) and be happy..

Very interesting. I might try 18mm on my bass. Any small pole alignment deltas should be pretty nominal, so it shouldn't affect tone much if at all.
It absolutely doesn't effect tone at all I had them on my LG for 8 months...There brass and come in black and chrome..These were the prototypes.
