Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 17)

Also, given that he's selling everything he can build, and had a substantive wait time for a new build, he really doesn't "need to expand his line" at all.

Patience Grasshopper,, :D:D

You will be surprised:)

Quick question:

Any reason why Alleva uses P & J pickups but not humbucker? I know theres some allure to boutique vintage instruments but why stop at improving just Jazz & P basses? Why not a Stingray? a G&L?

Would you guys buy em? Is it that they can improve on Fender more than they can improve on G&L & Stingrays?

imo, all Jimmy doing is reproducing the real vintage tone with the modern package active electronic + the 5string. that's might be the reason.

holy **** im suppose to be leaving from aus to see jimmy for a repair with my lg5 that has a brazilian rosewood neck, should i cancel this trip?
No. Things aren't nearly at that point yet, but, someday, they theoretically could be if we don't fix that Lacy act.

In the Gibson case listed above.. It was not the wood that was the problem.
It was that the alleged wood was not worked or finished to and end product by people in India...
Laws of India being enforced by Our swat teams and judges under the Lacy Act. In this particular instance,, It could have been Balsa wood, and if the fingerboards were not finished in its country of origin it would be considered illegal wood.
Very Silly and far stretching law in my opinion...
But there will be a day that (they) whoever they are.. will come after you for those guitars...
Just as what is going on now with the American Silver and Gold collectable coins.. Minted Legally years ago, but suddenly the FEDS (Secret Service) who has control over money counterfeiting matters, arrest the guy that minted them (LEGALLY) as collector pieces and took over $7,000,000 in silver from him.. But latest news from investors is that the Secret Service will now be going after people that bought the coins. Ceasing them and arresting them too..

Can it happen with guitars too? Well according to the documents that Gibson received YES. They can go after the end user..you and me.. take the guitar and jail you too... And not so much for wood used, but because of the way the wood was worked by an American in the American shop in Memphis @ Gibson to creat a guitar and not at the country of origin which happens to be India in this case..
Again silly, crazy laws... This all falls under Agenda 21...

Anyway , I would not worry about your bass in transit.. Gig bag it, carry it with you.. and as far as you know . It is EBONY, from waaaaay South California....:D

Fingerboards can't be made to a finished state in another country.
You'd have to have the rest of the instrument there to assure quality fitment.

That's just dumb.

Not surprising, but, dumb.

Be careful here. Don't state things as fact unless you know they are. Last I understood, this is still only a supposition because the jerks literally won't tell Gibson the details. This could very well be the case, but until official confirmation happens, we don't really know that. Otherwise, was there an official update to this?

Yeah, the whole finishing thing is really no big deal because Gibson is always gonna' rework stuff as it's made part of the guitar... even more moot if they're buying chunks and cutting their own board blanks. They can easily satisfy this and not have it affect their business one little bit.

I have no way of knowing if this is what it says it is but seems legit.

Actually the warrant affidavit does not talk about finished fingerboards. What it says under the section on Indian law is that certain types of rosewood are illegal to export. I only skimmed the doc so maybe I missed some other important info.

I'm not a lawyer but this document clearly states why they raided Gibson, right or wrong it contradicts the Gibson CEOs assertion that they didn't know why.

Let's make sure we avoid politics as there have been a number of threads closed on the topic. I plan on reading the above document entirely when I have time.

I would not have written what i had if i did not hear it from the source. :rollno::smug:
Yesterday i was listening to an internet radio host that had Henry E. Juszkiewic, Gibsons CEO on the radio for about an hour.. He talked in depth about the OLD case ... and also the new info from last weeks raid..
One of the complaints was that the wood only listed Nashville Airport as the final destination of ebony, and not the Gibson factory.. ughhh
He talked about DHS coming in too.. What does Gibson guitars have to do with terrorists and protecting borders.. Unless alciada is hiding in a pile of wood.:D

Anyway.. Im heading to Nashville today.. fly date.. yeeehaw...... I want to drive by and see if the place is open or not.. will update if i get time...

OK my final edition to this today.. Perhaps there should be a new thread concerning these matters. .I really don't know.. But since alot of Alleva owners have JIMMY WOOD ;);) I figured i would let them know the latest blurbs.
Perhaps a MOD could help in some way with guidance.
I found this soundbite today RE Gibson.. At this time it does not seem to be about the wood species itself , but instead the actual Finishing and labor to complete a said piece before export. Of course this is only a snippet of the full interview...

"Gibson Guitar CEO Says Feds Told Him Problems Would ‘Go Away’ if Labor Outsourced to Madagascar"

LINK -- Chris Daniel Interviews Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz - YouTube

In an interview with Beck radio affiliate KMJ 105.9 in Fresno, California, Juszkiewicz told host Chris Daniel that the government made the point “explicitly:”

CHRIS DANIEL: Mr. Juszkiewicz, did an agent of the US government suggest to you that your problems would go away if you used Madagascar labor instead of American labor?

HENRY JUSZKIEWICZ: They actually wrote that in a pleading.

CHRIS DANIEL: Excuse me?

HENRY JUSKIEWICZ: They actually wrote that in a pleading.

CHRIS DANIEL: That your problems would go away if you used Madagascar labor instead of our labor?

HENRY JUSKIEWICZ: Yes, yeah. They said that explicitly.

So regarding going to LA from AUS with your bass , I would gamble it should be ok.. I travel internationally with my Allevas with special (jimmy wood) :D;);) and usually gig bag it... So far so good.. It would really stink if someone took it from me though..

Anyway this is the latest scoop that has come to my attention today.

OK my final edition to this today...
You're getting your facts mixed up. The Madagascar issue is from the 2009 raid, not the current one (though the 2009 issue is still open, which is why they brought it up).

I just listened to the whole radio interview. The snippit was out of context.

Perfect example of why you wanna' be careful making assertive statements about this stuff.

read the entire warrant and listened to the interviews.

This is very confusing...but

The warrant asserts "The Republic of India prohibits the export of HS4407"

HS codes are simply commodity classifications 4407 refers to "wood sawn or chipped length, sliced etc, over6mm thick" not specific to india and not specific to the species of wood.

Indian law says " All goods may be exported without any restriction except to the extent that such exports are regulated by ITC (HS) or any other law for the time being in force"

The warrant never cites where India prohibits the export of HS4407

Here are more links. If you Google you will find Tuesdays recent interview.. My friend called me today and said there is one more interview from today.. But its not posted on YouTube yet..
I wish i could edit a snippet out so it does not have the input of the commentators going off and digressing.

Henry's interview starts at 2:30 in PART 1.. after commentator lead in... You may not want to listen to the commentators remarks.. But he makes some other valid points..
I don't know how many times i have to show you something for you to get it.... and from how many different angles, but once again here ya go with 8-30-2011 from the CEOs mouth.

Staying Focused... AT 6:18 Henry talks about the ISSUE.. Its the working of the Wood to Final Finish.. NOT the SPECIES ...And that is stated in the written PDF listed above. ...:rollno: No need to gloss over the spoken words by the CEO.

Part 1 CEO @ 2:30 Gibson CEO - Government Attacked Us 1 of 2 - YouTube

In Part 2 at 5:53 the same thing is spoken. WORKING of the wood. Dont know what more you need Vic. Then ONCE again at 8:30 The issue is stated One More time...
Part 2 Gibson CEO - Government Attacked Us 2 of 2 - - YouTube

I have to go catch a ride.. will be in Nashville tonight and im doing a drive by to see a bud there before I have to work...

I don't need anything. Just that everything I've read and heard contains complaints by them that they've still never been officially charged, so until that's been locked in by the government, it's still hearsay. That said, I haven't read through the PDF Peter posted, but I'm not sure if that source is trustworthy either. It's not directly from an online resource provided by either directly involved party.

Hey, if nothing else, FWIW.

Personally, I don't believe anything until I hear/see it directly from an bonafide authoritative source.

Wanted to finish my thought. The warrant says indian law does not allow the export of hs4407 but does allow the export of hs4408. I can't confirm if that's true or not.

What Gibson imported was labelled as hs4408 while the assertion was that it was actually hs4407.

Not sure why the CEO did not address that directly. Seems to be a summation of the recent raid issue.

Wow, this all sounds like a witch hunt to me. Damn crazy laws from near 100yrs ago??
While some that commit violent crimes get a slap on the wrist!
Forgive me, I'm using my ph here, & can't read the links, but?????
A court here in Aus, recently let a guy who committed a double murder, out on BAIL!
Yet, they lock up ppl who protest for same sex marriage?!?!!!
