Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 19)

Well, I have arrived in Florida and have the LM5 in my possession. Wow, is all I can say, it's a fine looking instrument and feels really good in my hands. Not had time to play it yet, as I have had quite a few things to organise. Moving into the apartment I will be staying at during my studies this afternoon, so I'll get a chance to play then. Only through a Pandora Mini though. It will be Monday or Tuesday before I get to play through an amp. They use Mark Bass at the Player's School. Acoustically it sounds great. Well worth the wait.

Awesome. Post some pics when you can.

On a side note, it sounds like you're going to the Player's school. Would love to hear more about it. I'm thinking about attending a one week intensive there this summer.

I did the one week intensive in August last year. I really enjoyed it. It altered the way I look at bass and learning. The only problem is, you will need to find a teacher when you return home to continue the process. It really is just a taster. I'm not sure where you are at. I have been playing 25 years, and the one week just showed me how much I suck. Really looking forward to 10 weeks of constant playing with no distractions.

You get a bit of theory class in the one week, but again, it isn't really long enough to make much difference. This is why I have taken the plunge, ditched the day job(and an income) for 10 weeks, as I think that will make a huge difference to my playing.

Thanks man. I could absolutely see that being the case. I wish I could do a full semester but it's just not in the cards for me right now.

The 5 day could work as my wife could come down, hang out at the beach during the day and we could meet up for dinners after class. It will help me sell the concept to her!

My boy Chris "Big Chew" Chew, from North Mississippi Allstars, just got this yesterday. Chew likes big necks, so he has a 5 string neck on his.

Okay, finally spent some time with it this afternoon.

I was just using a Korg Pandora Mini. Build quality is great, fantastic looking bass, felt very natural in my hand. Weight wasn't an issue, but then again I usually play a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 in Zebrano.

The sound, even through the Pandora was great. Nice and bright without being too zingy. Nice bit of grind. Definitely a slap machine. I'm looking forward to really getting to know it.

Looks like I'm joining the club sooner then I thought :)

Purchased an LG4 Classic in Sunburst Nitro finish from Jimmy last. Should be getting it this Friday :hyper: It was used by Willie Weeks for a little while and in great condition.

Finally after a 5 years of curiousity, I got one :)

Pics from Jimmy's shop taken last night. Looks like it still has the pastic on the rear cavity plate.

VERY NICE! Man, you'll NEVER hear or play a better representation of a 60's J than that bass. Seriously. And I'm glad you landed this one over the previous AC you were looking at. This one is a much better AC IMHO... you'll get the full AC experience with it. :)

Can't wait to hear first gig reports. :)

I have a feeling that particular gold is a little too "sharp" for a tort guard in person. IMHO, the existing black guard, or maybe white, parchment, (maybe) mint, or pearl would be better choices. Again, just MHO tho.
