My first thought was trans white or aged oly white with a tort guard, then I saw some of the lighter metallic colors, Inca silver, harvest gold, and blue. Now the burst thought has raised it's ugly head. That's one good thing about the wait. I don't have to decide for a while yet and if I don't make a decision then I didn't make the wrong one. Maybe I'll get dakota red to match my LG-5.

Has anyone seen an AC with a tinted maple neck? Jimmy offers tining but I haven't seen any pics.

On a related note that KBP-5 kills. I really like the look of the dummy coils under the 'a' string treble pickup.

The funny thing is, I never wanted a 3T Sunburst bass. But this old school Fender painter makes them look like magic in Nitro.

And yeah, Jimmy welcomed me to the family as well!!

Have you ever seen one in person? Have you ever played one? Have you ever talked to Jimmy about his design concepts and why AC basses are " way they are"?

My guess is that the answer to each of the above questions is no. My suggestion is that before you make any more judgments you actually see the bass up close.

In person the headstock is not a big deal, and adds important mass to the back end of the bass. As KJung says, the pickguard lessens the distance between the body of the bass and the strings - very important for many who slap. It also protects the impeccable finish of these basses. The bridges are designed to produce the best possible sound, and come in a configuration that is easy produce consistently in quantity. You might like a control plate, but I find that having controls mounted on a plate (or pickguard) a la Fender is a flimsier design than just mounting them to the body of the bass.

AC basses are incredibly well crafted and superior sounding instruments. If they are not your cup of tea, that's cool, but there are very good reasons why they are the way they are. Which of course is why a number of us "in the club" are somewhat fanatical about them. I bet playing one would change your mind completely.:smug:

Well apart from your response esoxhntr my post seems to have been taken in the intended spirit. Maybe that's indicative of the maturity of AC's customer base.

The neck on my LG5 is Nitro and it is tinted slightly.. if not it would be maple white.... My bass is Inca silver with matching headstock.
My KBP5 will be here next by tuesday or wednesday.. it has a tinted poly finish on the neck

Isn't it funny how we get so excited about a bass that we just placed on order that we can so readily plan the next one too? That just speaks volumes about the quality of these instruments. How cool is that!

Nice specs Bernie! I was torn in my decision to emulate Paul Turners' Oly White/Tort/ Alleva. But the 3T Sunburst with that old school Fender painter MOJO got the best of me! It really is priceless. Those don't come along every day, and that guy is not going to live forever. (to the best of my knowledge) LOL That said, I may stick with the Hipshot bridge initially and add the bent plate bridge later. After all, Paul Turners LG5 has the Hipshot and listen to how that thing sounds!

I'm not sure ( help me out Kirk) but I think that will go away. I think those are fender pickup covers (2 of the same, one reversed hence the extra holes)and Jimmy's going though some incredibly expensive possess of having his own custom covers done.

Haha it really does, Gary! Jimmy does a great job.

The 'Paul Turner' bass is a very nice one indeed. It's hard to not go with that color combo. But with the fact that the guy who shot Nitro for Fender would be shooting the burst on my bass, I couldn't resist going with it! That combined with the fact that I think that color combo would be insanely nice on a KBP5 and it was an easy decision.

So I'll two incredible basses with two of the most classic color combos ever. Sounds good to me!! :D

Speaking of amps, what rigs are you AC owners playing on? My aging back, and a DB750 will never see eye to eye. For me right now, Markbass LMII ---> Epifani UL310. (Although I may very well jump over to the new Bergantino AE410 cab if the reports come back as favorably as I expect)

That is a question for NYjimmy...
I do not know where he sourced the covers.. I do know that he has been trying to have injection molding done to have his own made.. but believe it or not to get the two covers made for a P-bass which his are longer than stock cover.... just the injection molding set up is roughly $10-$12,000 not including the plastic covers themselves..So if he made 100 P5 basses you can figure what the cost is per bass just for a $1 plastic piece... its nutty.

So I turned him onto a guy here on TB today that had a great Idea. to have them machined... I dont know the details but Mike can maybe help with how they do it.. I do not know what he will wind up doing....

The pickup bobbins are easy.. he cuts them on the laser machine.. the magnets slugs are easy as well as magnetizing them and the winding is done by Sebnem at the shop. but the covers. that is the pain.. He has a source but is looking into other options from what i know.. I wish i had the details for you .. i just dont know that answer but i will try to get it..

Oh.. there is no dummy coil in the P5 pickup .. the coil is each are equal.. but there are dummy Pole Pieces.. Im sure that is what you meant..

My inear rig is REDDI Tube DI and i use Westone UM2's.

My real rig is Genz Benz GBE1200 into 1,2, 3 or 4 Aguilar GS112s.
Thinking of a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 for my local and all small gigs. Or perhaps a Thunderfunk TF750 too.
