Man, I don't know, and feel free to disagree, but I've had both on my LG5. First with the Hipshot and then with Jimmy's bridge. To me the tone and feel changed in a really positive direction (for authentic 60's jazz tone that is) when i put on Jimmy's bridge. the high end smoothed out a little, and if the bass wasn't already the punchiest thing I've ever played, this definitely did it! Maybe it only pushed the bass 5% closer to that über 60's tone, but for me the feel was worth it.

Yeah, this is all by design and exactly what Jimmy wants of course, as his whole thing is about trying to be faithful to the original tone. I didn't mean to compare the HipShot B to his (which I actually prefer the HipShot, so in my case, it was nice to save a few bux and get what I want).

Sorry for the crappy photos.. My Iphone is all messed up.. I have to get a new one but I'm putting off signing another 2 year contract! ughhhh

Im back in on Monday. Ill try to get more gear photos with my real camera..
He has racks of vintage EQs and Compressors that i will take pics of to share with you all..
He runs the Alleva through an old UA176.. the earlier tube version of the 1176.. It sounds phatter than an LA2a
, 1176 and others things.. But that lightweight Alleva P bass always gets thumbs up.. I was going to try one of Jimmys newer P bass Hot wrapped pickups in it.. But it is so good i don't ant to mess anything up in it...

I have the new nickel rounds on my KBP5 Standard and I like them fine, they don't seem exceptional to me, though, or inspire any superlative descriptions.

I put some of the flats on my P, and was unsure at first if I liked them or not. I had been using Pyramids and loved them, but felt the life had gone out of them so, now im on the A-C strings. Ok guys...sorry for the lame pic, but, this thread really needs an AC lift.

Here's my LM5 TB model that I just received today. Plays like a dream...really special bass.

I am a dyed in the wool alder player, so this is a real departure for me. That said, a great bass is a great bass and THIS is one of them (and it's my 3rd AC) and it's my 2nd 70's build (the other from another builder).

All I did was change the strings(to DR High Beams)...no thoughts of neck adjustment, string height, checking for ski jump ...nuthin....it's just all there on this bass.

Anyone taliking about the body size.... on the TB model anyway, not even a thought in my brain when I opened the case. Just to check, I held my Geddy Lee (another SMOKIN BASS i got lucky with on Ebay) over the AC and could see no appreciable size difference (and this comparing a 4 to a 5, no less). Nothing scientific, but FWIW...

P.S. ...is the Berg AE210V not MADE for a Fender 70's build....

Nice STT-1. You don't see many of those around. Every bass player should get a chance to play through one at some point in their career.

Nice, and yes, the AE210(II) is among my favorite cabs of all time for a vintage type vibe... tight, punchy, nice grind up top that isn't overgoosed, nice usable low end, and it sounds good with the tweeter dialed up or down. My all time favorite small gig cab with my A-C LM5! For those that missed out on these great cabs, the Bear ML112 is a touch brighter up top, but it has a very similar vibe. GREAT small cab solution for the J or P player:bassist:

Edit: And yes, Hi Beams on an LM... forget about it. Perfect ash/maple J A-C tone. I'm using the .125 B string, and that super rigid neck results in just a GREAT low B sound. Nice to be able to use a more 'balanced' B string size versus an overly large gauge. Nice harmonics and easy to intonate, plenty tension, and it is just a great 'extension of the E string' versus that 'B STRING' tone of some other basses, where the deep low end jumps and you lose any sort of upper mid grind, etc. Wonderful 70's bass spec and execution!

Yes the CA-6 or CA-9 are one of the finest power amps for bass.. Or anything! I still have one of my favorites though, an old Crown MA1200.... My Fav was a Crown PSA-2 .. something I got it from Showco years ago.. But it was stolen..The CA9 is girth and sledge hammer but can also be light as silk in note delivery.....
Im taking my Eclair Evil Twin tube DI/Pre on a gig with my crown tonight....

I have also a Macro Tech 2400, but the Crest is just more 'DC to Daylight' IMO, in the highs particularly. That macro/micro expression you mention is another BIG thing for me that is just hard to get in other gear.

LM string suggestions for more mids...

As mentioned, I've a strong alder/rw mids background.
Now, I'm not trying to change an LM into an LG or anything, but I would like to sueeze more mids out than DR Highbeams seem to deliver.
