Just finished to raise the pickups, following the method suggested by Mitch.
Easy and effective
I can hear the improvement in the deepness of the lows, and there's more grit

I don't think it's the same bass as Paul Turner's. No fretboard binding, different bridge, diff knob layout, etc.

I replaced the truss rod nut on my KBP5 with one that Jimmy sent me. Don't know the measurements but it really improved the adjustability of the neck relief.

These basses are so good that "just" an LG5 sounds funny! But anyway, what's that wide black stripe up the back of the neck through the headstock. Doesn't seem like a "skunk stripe" inlay, is it paint?

I don't think it's a skunk cause it extends into the headstock and skunks are for truss rods with a one piece neck. It most probebly is paint because it goes into the headstock. You know over the years Jimmy seemed to like doing some different things ...even one-offs. Who knows if it was ordered.

I believe Jimmy generally does not take direct orders anymore and encourages going through dealers. Build times can vary a bit but the dealer (who usually has a close relationship with Jimmy) will have a better idea of current times.

If you are in LA I would recommend going through Bass San Diego. They have a very close relationship with Jimmy, are incredibly knowledgeable, and have awesome customer service.

I second that. I really believe Bass San Diego is the store to go to if you're shopping for an AC or another boutique brand that they carry. Plus if you want to save the hassle on wait time for a specific build, BSD always has at least a few amazing AC's in stock.

What do you set your string height to? With my fingers my strings are super low but with the pick I am having to raise my string height fairly high to not get buzz (heavy picking). If anyone can reply with measurements that would be very helpful!

To be honest, there is no absolute and formula on strings action for particluar playing, it is really personal and subjective, , based on what you are describing, what you can do is either adjust your playing to get the balance on both fingering and picking, or change the position you pick and see if that helps or not.

Anyone know what size of phillips is used for the truss rod? Looking at a right-angle screw driver to adjust the neck.

Contrary to most people's preferences (I think) and to Jimmy's credit as a builder who can deliver a bass that can take that type of low action you can operate with by breathing on it, I like a wee-bit more cap'n.

Realized that was the only thing bugging me about this bass, and I didn't want to touch the saddles just yet, because the previous owner got it dialed in so perfectly. I tend to go to the neck once I have the bridge saddles dialed in.

All in all, this one's staying in my grubby paws, unless an ash/maple Spank Stick shows up, looking all good in a thong and roller-blades.

I don't know if you found the right tool for your truss Rod but this one is a really good one for that.

I use that Rod Crank or the one in attached pic if I need some better grip.
