I must say I'm a sucker for the Aged Oly White, RW fretboard and tort pg. it's what I ordered from Jimmy...a month ago today. Whaddya think, will I get it by Thanksgiving? Lucky I've got a Sadowsky M5-24 that I'm really digging to tide me over.

To celebrate my one month anniversary i went back and watched that live Jamiraquoi show on the AC website. Wow, I just love the sound Paul Turner gets...and isn't he using the floating thumb right-hand technique that I just switched over to (after all these decades)?

This thread is delivering already. Great pics. Kirk, those are some cool insider pics.

Gary, I'm really digging the sunburst, but I'm in love with matching headstocks. Tough choice. Too many options.....

Joel, I never gave much thought to fretwire. On my old refin '59 P bass, the frets are bit thinner than my KBP4, but they don't feel a whole lot different.

Actually, it's uncanny how close these two basses are in tone. I would have never believed it without A/Bing them.

Here's a pic from the last thread for comparision:

And the thinner wire:

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I think my heart might be with the Oly White. I need to check with Jimmy to see what stage my bass is in. If it has not gone to paint and I can switch, I think as sweet as the 3T Burst is, I might switch to Oly/Tort. I have a couple wonderful basses that make me happy while I endure the wait.

I love the thin fret wire personally, but I don't have any problem with the medium wire I see on most AC's. I never even asked Jimmy. I imagine he has a standard fret wire that he uses?

I have been getting mine with small to mandolin fretwire.. its it tiny.. I use nickel strings so they should last a long time

That was about the only thing I thought of when I saw that option. Since I would be spending a good amount of money on it I would want it to last a long time. I normally use SS strings, but I don't know if I would even notice fretwear. I am planning on eventually getting a high end bass that will probably be one of the last ones I buy for a while.

Would I be an idiot to switch from the 3 Tone Sunburst/Rosewood/Tort/Nitro finish LG5 I have on order to an LG5: Oly White/Tort/Matching headstock/Rosewood/Dots and 66 transition period FB binding? I already have a Nordy in Oly White/Tort/Rosewood/pearl blocks/matching headstock on the way. The thing is, if I find that I love the AC LG5 that much more, I'll be playing it a lot and I love that color combo.

Everytime I see those Oly White/Tort/Rosewood basses, I get weepy. But the 3 Tone sunburst/Nitro AC's are also pretty special.

What do you guys think?

I'm not a sunburst fan, so my vote is go for the white. That said, have you considered any other colors, maybe something unique?

Cool. If that is what is on most and what he thinks is best I am sure that it is. The handmade vintage vibe is what is most appealing to me about these basses so that is what I would be going after.

That Oly White bass above would be exactly what I would order. Unless I decided to step out and get one in Fiesta red. It just looks "right" to me.

Thanks Mike! I always enjoy seeing your LG5! Your LG5 was one of my inspirations in addition to Paul Turners. I'm so glad you swapped the Black PG for the Tort PG! The Tort makes the bass even classier in my opinion. Nicely played Mike! I admire and respect your chops and the way you make yours basses sing. You have great sense of musicianship. Be well my friend! Gary

Aww shucks Gary!!!!
Thanks man!!!!!

Now, if I could only get the guys at AC to spray my headstock to match the body I think I would pee myself a little!!!!!

I have a guy here in town that is a monster refinisher. He said he could color match it so good you would swear it was done at the same time.
He's the same guy that did all the "Ford" acoustic guitars for Toby Keith in the Ford commercials, and also re-fins his "road" guitars.
But that would entail me convincing the AC boys to maybe re-decal the headstock.
I don't want to loose that cool logo!

This? (imagine White Fingerboard binding too) mmmm. Sort of ties all that Oly White together, don't you think?

This oly white AC would be soooo hot if it was actually the color it appears in this photo... a buttercream!

I got an email from Jimmy, I had asked him about status of my bass. I ordered back in early Feb, I believe. He said ETA end of summer, but may be impacted by his relocation to CA.

So he IS moving to Cali.......wow........

P.S. Gary, if you like the white, do it.......those specs were actually my originals before I changed the color

P.S.S. Good to finally see you play,Matt.....wish you had more airtime with your basses..........

P.S.S. Thanks for the pics, Kirk........Ethan is the guy who convinced me to get an A-C when he had just gotten the red one he had.......Haven't seen him in a while....Go Movement Orchestra!.....
