And the bent plate footprint is the same as the hiphot with same screw holes.. So no extra anything.. you know the bent plate is not a quik release though?
But that really doesn't matter since there is the hold down tree up at the Nut where you have to run through anyway...

where do you like to run the preamp? i asked him how he designed it to be used and he said he made it to be dime'd. i found i liked the bass and treble both boosted about half way on every bass i played. flat didnt really do it for me.

I run mine pretty much like I do with my Sadowsky's... just a very slight bass boost (maybe 10%) and everything else flat. That basically gives you a 'passive, organic, vintage but with more balls' tone that works very well for what I'm trying to achieve. I might boost the bass just a touch more when slapping, again just to add some balls to the attack, but never more than 30% boost or so. I often have the passive tone control engaged just a bit (20% or so) just to take the edge of the strong upper mids of my ash/maple J's, although later in the evening when the bands crank up a bit, I usually roll that back in for cut.

That being said, I find much more than that with the Sadowsky pre gets pretty 'un-musical', and I've never used the treble control at all on my Sadowsky's, since they are quite sizzly to start with, and my rigs are very clean, full range, and extend all the way up to that 6K thing. However, as you mention, the Alleva pre (bass and treble) stays very musical and actually quite subtle even when really cranked.

Again, to my ear, Jimmy is not about the 'jazz on steroids thing' like the Atelier Z or Celinder Update models, which do that very, very aggressive, active Marcus type thing wonderfully.

The Alleva sounds like a really good passive Fender bass through a really good mixing board... even if you are playing out of backline.... vintage+ or something like that. It's hard to describe:)

+1. Once you have that hold down tree, the advantages of quick release are minimized versus a more classic 'through the hole' bridge. I don't think the tone would really be much different, but the bent plate sure does match the vintage vibe a bit better than the stock bridge.

That being said, I ain't changin' nothin' on mine:bassist:

Guess who's back on four strings for a while........ don't be jealous I've suffered a major hand injury. I'm really just coming back to playing electric now after 6 months.


Guess who's buying that white w/blocks four from the last 2 made in NYC.

When the guy who made it tells you " Its one of the 2 best best fours I've made well...... you gotta listen right?

Man oh man...I knew I should have bought that white one....You know I couldn't agree more about the 3TS you got from me. It is definitely the best 4 string I think I have ever played. It is OK though, I got a nice consolation prize on the way....and it puts me back in the Alleva club!! :hyper:

Yeah..my friend Hugh has his all his sadowskys with a quick release string tree.. next time i talk with him i need to get a few of them for my basses.. I would like to put that on my sadowsky and allevas.

Tom, your 3TSB was a great one.... another one from that batch at NAMM was a Sonic Blue standard 4 J.. I would have bought that one if I had the cash at that moment.. If anyone here on TB got that Sonic Blue Jazz leave a note here...

You got it right anout the RA. It's based on a '72/ '73 J Alder body with the wider "70's pickup spacing (that came out in '72). Ken was dead on with the wood combo. Thank you both for helping out.

Close but the LS which is now discontinued actually had '60's pickup spacing. I based that on a '65 J and matching '65 strat set that I almost bought but just didn't have enough funds. The body on both were ash and were painted in trans blonde with of course the standard rosewood board of the time... oh yeah tort guards. I am killing myself for not buying them now. I think the set was about 7 or 8 grand which at the time was a small fortune (actually still is a small fortune). Now that set is probably worth a down payment on a nice house. Oh well just goes on the list of several others that I had to pass on. Maybe some other time... ya know what, I'll just make my own set... hmmm, maybe NAMM... Hey let's see who's reading and if any other builders do the same.

Hey Kirk, Carefull with the quick release sring tree... it may sit too low on the headstock pulling your B and E string from the nut. I like the idea of the quick release string tree but with the bar I can dial in the exact string angle that I need to achieve for all the strings. So suck it up, the bar for now :).
At somepoint (and if so it will be a while... but maybe sooner than later now that I am only a 15 minute drive from one of my machinists) there may/will be a quick realease string tree for Coppolo basses.

Cool, and thanks for that detailed info. I am clueless on the different versions of the Fender J's through the 70's, since that's the period when many of us 'lost the love' for the Fender brand.

We did a small GTG at my house yesterday evening. We had quite a few 'boutique J's' in the house, and when the LM-5 came out, that was that. Everyone played that (and a 70's P Bass) the rest of the evening:bassist::D

Thanks Tom,I appreciate that. I do feel for you, that 3tone burst is a great bass. I'm not sure how it came to be that the white one was available when I inquired about it. I do know I'm very happy to have a back up as solid as the main player, which ever comes out on top.

According to Jimmy the white one will be a little more aggressive that barkier mid sixties tone ( Larry Graham).It should be very light. Jimmy talked about finding the body wood in the bottom of the pile when he was packing to move.He said it had been there for years and it was allready old and dry when he got it.


I'm in the process of moving its going to be a couple of week before I get it.


BTW that pair of Ice Blues are beautiful! The one with blocks is killing me!

that white one is the real deal. i loved it. the sunburst one was cool, but that white one is different. you have an amazing bass coming to you and thats coming from someone who is routinely underwhelmed by stuff that people rave about;)

Hey guys....I have to bow out of our club here.
I sold my Alleva back to Tommix for a number of reasons.
So, I turn in my number (# 11) to be given to someone else (Tommix if he doesn't have one maybe???)

It was fun being part of this club!!!
