Well I can't say what the letters stand for but I will say it's about 11:30pm and I just finished some In-N-Out. If I live at the shop any longer you guys wont recognize me come NAMM time. I'll be as big as a house. At least I'm getting these basses completed and out to you guys though. ..." Like the way I changed the subject?"

I used my LG5 on a spot for ESPN tonight and the KBP4 on a Dallas Stars jingle.. The engineer loved both basses over my other booty-Q bass..
I ran then through the REDDI/ Neve Mic Pre/ Destressor to Protools

yes, yes, yes, I appreciate that the A~Cs kicked butt... butt seriously Kirk, a RED, a Neve, and Destressor!!??!!... that right there could make a fart sound like Pavarotti!

needless to say with the A~Cs I'm sure the signal chain was near to flat (a little scoop on the KBP4?)

Hi Pete.. The LG went without any EQ on the bass I went with the preamp bypassed.. But punched through like crazy.
Its sports music 30 second clip stuff... for intro outro... nothing fancy..
I have no idea why he put the distressor inline.. The signal was very even and he didn't say it was needed at the end. I guess just in case.. I dont like to track with a compressor anyway...
The kbp4 had new strings on it with maybe one gig on them so i rolled back the tone control some to less than half just to take some sizzle off and let the mids punch... I never EQ when recording . I let the engineer do what he wants later.. Hate to get myself in a pickle that I cant get out of by eq'ing before all the other stuff starts to pile on. Save EQ for later if its needed..

The Neve is the shazizzle.. They never stop to amaze me.. You are right, between the reddi and a neve, a doggie fart could sound appetizing..
I have that Vintech pre that i used to bring with me all the time, but now just the REDDI and so far folks are happy.. If i crank the Reddi i can get a real nice tube tone...
He didn't have an amp there so i also brought my POD xtpro for some flavor and we tweaked a a few amps tones and cabs sounds and really got a punchy fat wall between the two..
I need to mess with my POD more. I hate the stock sounds, but if you sit and tweak it and mess with it, i think it is a great tool to add a little something when that little something is wanted... But the AC were dead quiet, and punchy....

My single coil Alleva J5 Pickups are quieter than another bootyQ hum canceled J pickups that i have.. Go figure????
I just love that it works without effort... "Plug and Play". wasn't that a 90s saying?

Also I dropped my REDDI face down yesterday...... Ughhhhhhhh. It was in my gig bag pocket and it slipped out.. Put a little road rash on the front. Thank God for the recessed and angled front panel. It protected the Volume knob.... I was hoping the tube wasn't smashed.. I turned it on and it worked fine. That thing is built like a Russian Made Cold War Tank...
But they are made in Sunny California....

Cant wait for this bass - can i join the club now or do i have to wait till i get the bass?

Noice Choice! I'm taking my Burgundy Mist CS Fender J to Iraq in a couple months to rock out for the troops. And yes...it will be strung with Hot Pink DRs. lol Can't wait to see a KBP with that color combo.

Ok, the D'Addarios are starting to die on me. What strings should I try next on my LG-5?

The more expensive strings I try on my LG5, the more I realize, for me, there is nothing wrong with good old D'Addarios Nickels. I like Sadowsky Black Nickels on my 4 strings but I find that I don't like the lower tension with the LG5 string spacing.

You could always try AC Strings and give us a full review.

Man ... i lent my Dakota Red LG5 to DR for the first Bass Player Live in NYC 4 yrs ago when they first debuted the Extra Life Red Devils Strings. When I got it back, I used the strings on a record date. After hearing the play back, I've never used anything else. (and I sold my Fbass)
To me, the Extra Life already sound broken in and make my Coppolo basses sound vintage.

And by the way, how do I get a club number ??

Hrmm. I never tried the extra life, those are coated strings right?

Yup. Those are the coated ones.They don't feel like regular DR's and to me, they don't feel much different than a non coated string. They come in lots of wild colors and also in silver, which look like a regular string. I highly recommend them for the AC's. I don't like a super bright string and find that the Extra Life have the right amount of ping and enough punch to compliment my AC's.

Jimmy e-mailed me today and said he is building a RA-5
for Bass Player Live. The body and neck has already been
cut. Just needs to be sent to paint and the neck fretted.
He ask if I would be interested in taking this one.
Took me about... a couple of seconds to make that decision. Looks like I'll have it sometime in November.
