Club Alleva Coppolo (Part 8)

I "always" change the battery when I change the strings. I had the battery sitting on the desk to make sure I didn't forget.
I opened the battery compartment tonight and...it had the origianal Danelectro battery than came in the bass still in it....Oops. :o:)
The Danelectro lasted almost 10 months. :D

If you only change strings every 4-6 months, I'm guessing you have a pretty light playing schedule. I'd say that battery could have gone a lot longer than 10 months. These preamps really don't draw much power, and of course that's also only when they're plugged in. When unplugged, it's literally an open circuit, so there's not even any leakage going on. Exactly the same thing for the battery as sitting on a shelf somewhere. FYI. :)

I asked Jimmy about building me a P/J 5 and he told me that he felt that the electronics/pickups would be compromised and would not build them because it did not meet the same standard as the rest of his basses.

That being said....I would LOVE a P/J 5 with a hum cancelling J pickup at the bridge!

What I understand Jimmy is all about vintage. Fender never came up with a P/J during those years. I spoke to him once about it when he was in New York and P/J's were never a fender original. It came from the players who wanted more treble from there p basses. He did not go into detail but I get the feeling that was pretty much why. But I have been wrong with remembering also.

The nature of the statement was that the "electronics/pickups would be compromised", which leads me to believe it has nothing to do with being faithful to a specific vintage P or J sound. For that matter, back in the day, Fender never had a P5 or J5... at least not like these.

I have a feeling it's due to the fact that it would drive a lot of people to ask for a hum canceling J pickup, something I'm pretty sure he has absolutely no interest in doing, but without his direct answer, it's all just supposition. :)

Simply put, Jimmy does not believe that the P/J set up works well sonically. I've been bugging him to make me one for 5 yrs ...
It's because the P pickup is a humbucker and the jazz pickup is single coil. He's convinced that the pickups don't work well together. On his "to do" list is to develop a humbucking bridge pickup before he will ever consider doing a P/J set up.
Trust me when I say that if anyone could get him to do it, it would be me ... and I've had less than no luck.

Trust me, I'm with ya, bruthu. I have a couple PJ's now and I strongly disagree with his negative opinion on the sonic pairing, BUT, I totally understand the desire to not even consider it until he has a HC J he's happy with. :) And thanks for the kind words too! :)

My band has not been playing out much over the last few
years. I really haven't been looking for anything new because
of my wife and mom's health issues...until the last few weeks.
I got an offer last week from a drummer that I have played with a few times.
He and his wife that plays keybords both have great voices. They are very controlling.
I know their guitar player really well. He said on their last gig the wife said his stage volume was to loud.
On the first song on the second set he turned around and she had put a carbord box over his combo amp. :D
I think I'll keep looking.

I have (4) basses that I rotate between. Not as many as some of you guys.;) Even when I did gig a lot (about 8 times a month is a lot for me) I only changed the string about every
4 months or so.
