Sweet basses, Fred, and nothing wrong with being in a band doing what you're doing. First off, most of Jimmy's customers, I'm willing to bet, are more guys like you who play music for fun and have a job where they don't have to sweat spending so much on a bass. There's a name for guys like that..."Smart." Second, you have 5 really cute girls lined up in front of you in that pic. Fredguy FTW!

These past few pages have been a good read.

No luthier is 100% perfect but every customer has the right to expect 100% perfection. I doubt very highly that Jimmy's excellent reputation will be marred by CMM's issues - on the contrary, I think that once the issues are fixed it will strengthen Jimmy's rep for providing excellent customer service.

As for CMM's original post - I feel that he had every right to air his frustrations. Jimmy demands a high price for his basses, we should all demand perfection when we drop that kind of coin.

I haven't lost a bit of faith in Jimmy. I've been kinda tossing around the idea of picking up an electric guitar for noodling/writing at home, and although I'm supremely confident that my guitar playing doesn't rate an instrument of the quality or cost of Jimmy's work, if I decide to splurge on an A-C again, I'll be as confident as ever that Jimmy will deliver something incredible.

Hey, you want to put yourself out there, then you have to accept the bad with the good. It probably should have been handled privately instead of on here, but it appears that the courtesy of allowing people to make things right before you trash them on the internet is a thing of the past, so I guess people are going to have to start accepting it.

I took this pic of my Alleva kbp5 today....Its about 8 pounds super light Alder body... with Dalbergia Nigra Fingerboard...

Sweet. Those KB5's really look cool... very muscular and meaty looking. It's so unusual (at least until recently) to see a 5 string P Bass that they just have that 'P on Steroids' sort of vibe.

Nice!!!!

It's a pretty interesting bass...On the surface I tend to think a P bass is a P bass....Not that hard to execute from a design stand point. Give me a decent Fender P bass, you can't screw that up... but for some reason you add in that pesky low B and it's like building a space ship.

While I'm really not a huge "P bass kinda guy" the KBP5 seems to be the only decently executed 34" scale 5 string P bass and it's light years better then decent.

Visiually it does look like an old 4 string P bass that's spent to much time at the all you can eat buffet...:D

yeah .. its very meaty in a mix.. very thick yet with a good focus.. jimmy is doing a newer proto Pickup for me to try soon.. cant wait.. should be very close to a 65 P bass tone.. this pup i have now is a little more focued than a vintage P pup a little more low mid girth..
I think he should make it an option??? but its still not wound, potted yet.. still in chit chat stage...

It really sounds great with RWs on it.... i think the neck width has alot to do with tone... I have tried equal weight necks with similar finger boards on P basses over the years.. the only difference was neck width.. J style vs wide P style.. and just the neck width made a huge difference... with the neck being wider the sound would shift to widen the tone so it seemed.. more experiments.. is it just more mass.. Im not sure because if you add a Fatfinger to add mass it doesnt do the same thing....:confused:
Just thinking.. time to go do some 30 sec bass tracks with this P5

svtb15, that is a beautiful bass. Love the fingerboard wood! :cool: This is the first time that I've really looked at the A-C's. I checked out Jimmy's site last night. I really like his commitment to building instruments that focus on vintage-type tone. -One day, man, -one day! :) :bassist:

A Big +1, I don't have any experience with a P5, but now that you mention it: I prefer a P-Bass to have a "C" width neck, not just because I prefer the feel of the wider neck, but it also seems to me the wider neck adds something to the instrument's tone.

Confessions of a Pbass addict...
I've been playing my KBP5 for most everything the last few months and just finished a fun festival weekend (3 sets a day).I have to say my favorite P basses are Jimmy's. I have a herd of Fenders including a 65 and CS's that are great but Jimmy's are at the top of the heap. The first AC I played was a bunch of years ago at NAMM, a P, and it knocked me out, unplugged. For me it's like if you found the BEST old Fender and it had better attention to details. IMO it absolutely sounds like a P but just a slight bit prettier/clearer. Still plenty of grit and growl and that fat pop sound that I love in a P. I got to the room sat. night after playing all day and still wanted to take it out and play it!

Hi and thank you.. yes this bass has a fast punchy P tone for sure..this thing burps,,,, its crazy..

+1 to someone else noticing the difference in neck width tone too... I thought it was only me..

Thanks.. you know i was thinking again..:rollno: it happens every once and a while:)

Mine has the universal route under the PG too.. Im thinking of trying a REV P when i get some time for the fun of it ... Might be cool on a P5 and het more burp from the B... time will tell
