Enjoy

Cool! Looks like Jimmy's take on a 4 string 70's J... ash, 70's pickup placement, blocks and binding... I guess similar to the Sadowsky Metro UV models in design goal. Cool!

I have a question for you guys,
because this tread (among others) I have major GAS and I will be flying to NY this weekend specially to check the AC stand at Bassplayer Live and try them.
I really love Paul Turner's tone in this Jamiroquai concert (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=316586), actually the GAS started there. :D
I know that Paul Turner's Alleva has an Aguilar 3-band pre...
so the question is: should I get it with the Aguilar pre or Alleva?, in other words how much do you think the Aguilar preamp affects his tone?

thanks!

I LOVE MY LG5!!! I have Jimmy's pre and I would not change a thing!

Peace,

Ricardex,
I also suffered from the Aged Oly White GAS after watching that concert, which I have saved on my desktop. :hyper:
So I bought one, exactly like Paul's with the exception of the Dalbergia Negra fretboard (to expensive for me!), and the Aguilar preamp.

I can tell you that I don't hear a significant difference between his preamp tone and the standard AC preamp, at least not in that particular concert/band setting. This is all just my speculation, but the only minute difference I can hear between the two is that, I believe, Mr. Turner boosted the mids to help him cut through a little more and sound really punchy.

With the bass and treble boosts, passive tone control, and two pickup volumes I don't have any problem finding a great tone. Infact, I don't even touch the bass and treble boosts cause I haven't found a real reason too...granted I haven't gig'd the LG5 yet!

Anyways, Paul Turner is one of those guys who has developed a great touch, so even with HIS exact LG5 it would still be tricky to pull off sounding just like him. His touch just sounds great on every bass I've heard him play.

You can tweak the AC pre a good bit, but if you are an uber tweaker and must have that mid knob, then go Aguilar. You can't lose!

Check out the bridge on the new model!
It looks to be that new more vintage one!

I think all his 4's have that bridge. But also did you see the KBP4........ Is that a different one than the one he had before cause that color is great and if it was there all along i wonder why i never noticed it. That new 70's 4 looks real nice too. Having a LM5, I feel alittle gas coming on.

I thought it looked like a new KBP4 too, great color!

haha..the name of that color is Plum Crazy. It has to be new!
I don't think I could own a purple bass, since everyone in my band already thinks I must be gay for playing a Burgundy Mist CS Jazz. The color is very pepto bismol pink, but I like it.
Having both pink and purple might get me chaptered out of the army!

Don't ask don't tell, soldier!!! :D (Hillary might offer bonuses for asking and telling, give it a few years)

Got any pic's? I liked the way the old fiesta red turned pink.
I don't think I would question your sexuality with a pink bass but if your uniform turned pink I would question it.

But of course!

These pics are really bad, as you can see. The flash always makes this bass look a lot more metallic and it brings out the pink. In the flesh, it looks slightly more purple, or a least a deep aged pinkish burgundy. lol...

oh yeah...did it mention it's been relic'd like crazy!
The LG5 sounds so much more vintage than this bass, which has no hum whatsoever, plays perfectly, is super light, and sounds great. But still it's not a vintage J sound. : (
I will be taking this one to Iraq to entertain all those hard chargers over there...I thought pink would be sorta punk rock.

Yo:

Heading out to Bass Player Live tomorrow...... Hope to see some of you guys there.... If not, I'll give you all the lowdown when I get back. I hope to get a peek at my bass while I'm up there.....

It looks alittle vintage. If you don't have a vintage fender its hard to get something that gets that close as the Alleva Coppolo.
