What strings are on that bass? Are they the new Alleva Coppolo's? How do they sound?
I'm not sure what strings came with the bass. But honestly, I wasn't thrilled with them and my initial thoughts about the bass were that it was "just another good decent bass." And then I noticed that the A, D and G strings sounded more alive compared to the B and E strings, which sounded rather dead.
So after a little time with the stock strings, I switched them out with a set of GHS Progressives. After a quick setup and neck adjustment, the bass really came to life. Now there seems to be a nice balance, where it's warm yet clear, and bright without being harsh. The B and E feel great and sound balanced with the other strings. I don't know if the exposed core on the B and E have anything to do with this, but that would be my guess to some extent.
I remember Ken posting something about the lower strings on his bass sounding a little polite in comparison to his other basses. But the initial imbalance on my bass was beyond just that. Maybe I got dead strings, or maybe they got beaten to death at BPL. I'll call Jimmy and see what he thinks.
B3bopbass,
What model GHS are those? Never seen an exposed core E-string before - I like it!!! (which of course means now I have to try and get some) :0

They look like what came on my LG5 which were Zons...
Peace,
T
Zons came on mine also. But I don't think the E and the B was exposed cores. To be honest I liked them. I have been in search for a great string for My bass (LM5). So far I like the Low Riders with a 130 B best. But I would like to try the Zons again. Im leaning toward the 130 B's and maybe even bigger. We should have a separate post as to what strings and what it brought to there ALeva Coppolo's. Have not tried and want to try the Progressive's, Fodera's, Zons again, High Beams w/130, and many many more. Even the Dean Markley's with the old man on the front. I use to love that string on my old fender. But so far all strings sound good on the AC because of the instrument itself, but strings holds an imprortance to your sound.
I asked for AC Nickles and I like them alot!
Granted, I'm not a string guru so I have no clue what to compare them with, but they sound and feel good.
Sign me up. Resistance was futile. Should be here in my hands early next week.
