I know.. thats what i said.. exactly....... i almost feel guilty for making him do it the way he did... i am a real pain in the ass at times... i admit it.. but i think it will pay off... we are still messing with pup windings.... and two types of bridges.. more to come soon....
i had a local gig tonight so im home and loving it..it has been a while sice i have been here .. need to play catch up

Thank you Bernie... Man im so excited...excuse me for the bragging some.. i feel i need to vent some this season... its been a nutty end of year..
About the bass though, Jimmy tells me its real light too.. We picked the wood out of a pile of old growth alder... it was a block.. he made about 8 P5 bodies from a few blocks... I love a light bass... my L sereis jazz was real light and i loved the way that sounded... and i think it left an image in my head about lightweight... plus at my age .. not my myspace age.. haha my neck is tired.. so light weight is esential...
I was going to go Nitro but when i was in NYC last month jimmy was want to try a new painter to do poly so i volunteered to be the guinea pig once again... is piano black....

Jason and me have been the guinea pigs for a few years now... and boy is it fun....

i was asking Jimmy o build a 5 string version of the first real fender i ever had with a maple fingerboard which was a 71 Fender P Black with White PG and maple fingerboard.. but i am digging the rosewood that he sent me picks of today... after Namm i will decide which way to go on my final personal bass..... i thin i will stick with the rosewood since i have a new LG5 with a maple neck coming very soon too... that thing will be sick.. thats another piece of real light alder.... yeooowwwww..
thank you for allowing me to brag a little... i feel much better now...

When i get it.. i will do some recording with it to hear the fatness that i he cant get on a video rec mic... He played ove rthe phone for me today and it does have sustain... very piano type tone... i want to feel my pants move when i play it through a my small rig

Kirk, I saw your bass today! I was at the shop for all of 10 mins so I didn't get a chance to hear it.


I did manage to play my bass and get a shot with the crew minus Marco ( and a great recommendation for pizza!)

Ice blue metallic, parchment pickguard - the rest I'm leaving up to Jimmy. I'm not at all picky about the type of frets but most of my basses have medium sized frets, so I have requested that. I like his vision of traditional sounding instruments, I'm gonna trust his skills rather than specifying everything.

If you think I'm nuts......... yeah, probably!

Will Jimmy do a Jazz bass with J neck only with a P head stock? I'd like to try one of his basses but the J headstock is too large on a four string.. looks ok on the fivers though... Maybe I'm wrong.. aren't the head stocks a bit different from P to J ??
Just curious.

You look suspiciously familiar! I get this strange feeling that I was walking to the Green Line in Alston with a bass strapped to my back about 5 years ago and you and your dog picked me up in your truck and dropped me off in the Back Bay.

Am I crazy, or did we go to school together? Berklee, Circa 2002

the P- and J are the same headstock.. it may have been the angle of the camera that made them look different,,

he did change the headstock about two years ago from the smaller style that i have on my original KBP4 to the full size he has now.. i also have the smaller hipshot mini tuners on my older KBP4 that is used on many 5 string basses today such as lakland and sadowsky 5 strings.. but my newer Alleva neck that is on my renecked fender jazz bass is the new larger size...

But Jimmy is now using full size post tuners on all 4 string basses with his custom 66 style lollipop tuners...

But to answer your question the headstock for all P and J basses are the same.. it is closer to the mass that fender vintage basses had...
If you look at the Alleva site some of the headstocks of the jazz basses are smaller and it because they were taken for the color chart before the change over..
