^ Thanks! I have been playing my new bass like crazy, and playing the other three CB's. I guess that really shows how nice the other ones are for me to put down the new one... Even if it's only for a few minutes.

While looking at the Bordwell website, I came across a sound clip for the parallel chamber six-string fretless. :eek:

What can you tell me about this marvelous sounding instrument? Do any TBers own one? Anybody know what one weighs?

If I don't stop looking at the Bordwell site, my wallet is going to take a serious hit. :help:

What's the Bordwell buying process like? Is Mr. Bordwell willing to collaborate on the details, or does he prefer buyers select from a list of specified options?

Cliff is VERY easy to work with. He is prompt when responding to questions, VERY knowledgeable about everything he builds and the different woods you may want to use. Pretty much any wood combo you can dream up, he can do. I strongly recommend to everyone I meet to get a Cliff Bordwell Bass. You can ask any Bordwellian on this thread, Cliff is the man.

There was a TB member in the club thread #1 who had a parallel chamber bass. But I don't think they contribute much, if at all, anymore.

Mr. Bordwell is very collaboration friendly. I sent him some tone goals, and lists of things I liked/preferred and asked what was realistic. He made, and continues to make, meaningful suggestions and engages with regular communication.

I think he'd prefer you to talk to him about what you want, rather then be stubborn on options, although I can't say for sure.

I have ordered multiple custom basses from multiple custom builders over the years. Cliff's craftsmanship, customer service, and value are all of the highest quality. In other words, he's nothing short of fantastic. When I ordered, we went back and forth a few times (via email) regarding options, he listened to what I wanted, and made suggestions accordingly.

I have a CB parallel chambers fretless six string. You can find a pic on Cliff's site under previous builds, January 4th. It's the one with the Koa top. I can't post much today, gives you time to compile your questions and I'll get back to you asap.

Short version: It's an incredible instrument.

About the parallel chamber'd bass:

Weight: There is a lot of wood on this bass and it is a six-string, so it can't be considered light weight. However, among the six-stringers I have tried, it is of average weight. I have played multi-set jazz gigs with it, no problems. The ergonomics are great and that helps. I don't have bathroom scales (ignorance is bliss).

Sound: This is difficult to put into words. Do the chambers have an effect on the sound? Yes. Does it sound like a hollowbody? No. Think of an electric with some girth, a bit of breath to the individual notes. Vague enough? Listen to the clip on Cliff's homepage. Yes, the B-string is that good.

This bass would be wasted on rawk, IMO, but wonderful for jazz.

You can also go with the design I got for my last two basses, which is just chambered. It helps with the weight a little too, giving the bass a more up-wright sound.

Any word on the ETA of your bass spade2you?

Cliff should have the replacement pickup around Thursday, so I should probably have it a week or two after that, I'd guess.

No doubt I'm a little biased as a CB owner, but Cliff and this group are helpful on pointing you towards the options that help you get the bass that YOU want. Sure, it's not too difficult to venture into uncharted territory, but Cliff has done enough experimenting with the things we order to have a very good understanding of things. Perhaps it's interesting/important to note that Cliff has a lot of repeat customers. ;)

I'm no longer waiting for update photos... because my new Bordwell arrived today.

Pictures soon, band clips this weekend. I <3 it. A lot. Fantastic instrument!

I must admit, as much as I love this bass already, and I do, I can't stop staring at ScottM's new bass. What a work of art! I think my next Bordwell will be a bit fancier, to make a nice complement to this soon-to-be workhorse. :smug:
