Club Fbass (thread 12)

Not open for further replies.
Hi everybody, I'd like to submit my entry to the club and get a number. I've had my BN5 now for a little over a year now. Custom ordered in 2012 from FretSpot.com (thank you Donovan!). Pretty standard specs...gloss brown burst finish on the body, maccassar ebony board, chrome hardware. The couple twists are white dot inlays and an extra light piece of swamp ash for the body (the bass weighs only about 8.5 lbs :bassist:)

I know I am preaching to the choir, but I am constantly blown away by how incredible it is. The construction and playability are unreal and the combination of the pickups and preamp are really versatile. I play a lot of styles but my main band is an original hard rock/metal group. Not the typical setting for an F bass (just a guess ;)) but the BN5 flat out kills. The bridge pickup with the mids dialed in can sound downright aggressive and has no trouble cutting through a dense mix of 2 guitars, keyboard, and a loud drummer. I've really come to appreciate how the bass, no matter what the setting, always seems to retain its voice.

Cheers to the F bass family for putting out such phenomenal instruments. Here's a photo from a recent gig.

Mike

Thanks for jumping in! Isn't Donovan great?

I'm trying to think of someone else... a club member who plays hard rock as well with his BNx... rats, it's not coming to me.

Anyway, my BN5 started me on that slippery slope years ago... I had just 4 basses and was very happy with them. Then I got my BN5 and wow, that was a revelation and a joy.

They are so flexible, the most versatile fretted bass I can think of.

Here's a very interesting video clip every Fbass owner should watch all the way through at least once.

It is a 70s oriented Fbass VF5 (ash body, maples finger board, 70s pickup positions) being played by a guy is a thin tank top shirt and jeans (you don't see his face except for his chin).

He describes the song as "country/fusion" and plays using modern slap technique and tapping with a twangy 1-4-5 country flavored song.

I love the tone (of course) and in fact think it is one of the nicer 70s oriented VFs I've heard. The playing is impressive; you can see that guy is working his tail off.

In terms of the song, there are enough dislikes expressed to underscore that while a cool fusion, country people might not particularly appreciate it, nor funk or jazz bass people.

But in my opinion it should have been done. Clearly this bassist put a lot of work into pulling off this idea, and I like how fresh the idea is is, even if I won't be adding it to my Flecktones playlists.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the number. I'm really excited to be a part of the club and share my experience.

Tom, to answer your question, yes it was a pleasure dealing with Donovan. He was very friendly and helpful throughout the process. I would not hesitate to give him a call if I had the funds to order another F bass.

I was just going to post that here... glad I didn't. It's better to have you come by more often. [wink]

BTW, I was thinking about your band... to me it's one of those things where you wonder: how could they all be in the same place at the same time with that kind of talent? I love it.

hehe i will be present more often now. i'm a relatively new dad and i've finally adjusted to the changes in my day to day routines.

thanks for the appreciation! i love my band too :) we all met each other in the session circuit and decided to do a bunch of originals whenever we all had free days.

Well, most of you are aware that I have placed my order for another custom AC6. I just have to say, that I absolutely love every ounce of this process working with FBASS...My technical specs of the bass wont change other than wood, but every detail is brought to the fore front with these guys...A huge thank you goes out to George, Marcel, Jeff and the rest of the team at FBASS!!.
I have gone with a full Walnut (chambered) body and five piece Ash neck!!..The "WALLACE" will be an incredible bass...the process is just in its infant stages but Marcel and Jeff are excellent at keeping me abreast of the build...when I get some new pics I will post for you. Attached is a pic of the my walnut top...its the one on the far left!!!!
