That's what I thought caramel burst was supposed to be, mine was more like a trans orange burst. As it turns out, that 28 fret BN6 is one of the first f basses that caught my attention. Its simply amazing.

This VF5 is amazing in every way. It's like there's a spirit in the bass. Same feeling I had with my very first BN. I can't wait to pop on these DR sunbeams and install a playing ramp. Then it's going to be extra crazy. The sunbeams brought my playing to life on the BN. I DO NOT DOUBT that they will transform the VF in a lot of the same ways.

One of my dear friends and clients taking the VF through its paces before a haircut. Look at that grin!

He's is an AMAZING ORGAN PLAYER, A KILLER GUITAR PLAYER, PLUS HE JUST GOES NUTS ON BASS. I WISH YOU GUYS COULD HEAR!!!!!

More headroom?...no sure on the 18volt system...but my question would be ...what kind of rig are you using?

Just wondering because even with a new battery the output is much lower than with my Fbass Studio 5 was.

It's a 2000 BN5 with single and duel coil pickup.

I'll try using my Markbass F1 head again that I used with the Studio. Thanks

Hmmm... something seems strange. On all of my Fbasses, the output in passive mode is on par with my other passive basses. When I switch to active mode, but with all the EQ controls turned down, you do observe the buffering effect which you get from most on board preamps, but the overall level stays about the same. As the preamp is boost only, you will see an increase in volume as you turn up the bass, mid and treble.

It sounds to me like either your former Studio or your current BN5 had/has some issues, perhaps? :eyebrow:

I did get a new bass head so maybe the gain on the new amp is not the same as on my Markbass. I don't have the studio anymore to compare it with so I'll try the Markbass again with the same 4/10 cab.

Is the "other" amp the Tech21? How does it respond to other basses?

Yes it's the Tech21 300. I did find that using my other basses I still have to set the drive above 12:o'clock, so I'm guessing the Tech21 has a very low gain input and being rated at 300w compare to 500w for the Markbass. The Fbass really sounds so much better on the Markbass.

Got it. Well, at least you know it's not an issue with your Fbass.
