Thanks Tom, really appreciate the input. +1 to not covering up the top on this bass. And it sounds like were of the same ilk in keeping our gear nice and clean. This is only the second non-black bass I own, so I well know the art of the wipe down :D

So the question is now, can I just contact Fbass and have a plexi ramp made for it - or are there other suppliers around? I'm also hesitant to attach a ramp using screws on this top, but double sided tape might look like well, you know.
Yes, Fbass makes plexi ramps after the sale. They will require measurements which stresses me out a bit. I'd hate to screw it up with something done.

There are others who can do them. I have a friend who made some of mine, but he's moved to Australia.

Marcel sent me updated pictures today. My bass will be finished sometime this week.

Wow, love that no pore filler and that blue against the maple of the finger board. Very nice.

Since I've been off the F Bass grid for a while, does anyone know if George is using a tougher clear coat Poly finish these days? My former BN5's easily showed wear through the finish. Just curious if the clear coat is any more durable now?

Do you guys still favor La Bella / F Bass Strings with exposed cores on your BN5's?

One more question; Is anyone using a different gigbag from the one provided with the F Bass?

Mono case or ??? Just curious.

Thanks!
In March of 2008 George started cranking out basses with a tougher (yet still thin) finish. In fact, Tom Bowlus had one of the very first ever basses with the new finish.

Speaking of beautiful blue basses with maple boards by the way...

I use Fbass strings (exposed core LaBellas) on my AC6 Signature and on my BN6, but not on my BN5. I've been using Ken Smith Slap Masters, but lately have been experimenting with other strings and currently have DR (Marcus Miller) Fat Beams on my BN5. I like them a lot, but I'm not sure I've found what I'm looking for yet.

As for gig bags, I don't trust gig bags except in certain very careful circumstances. I bought some Fbass cases which I don't think George is using anymore.

I'd contact Donovan at fretspot.com for the best fitting BN5 case if you are wanting to go that route.

I use regular full wrap strings only, for various reasons. The big one being that the bass actually plays in tune.

I use R. Cocco steels.
That's the biggest drawback to Fbass strings on a BNx bass: when you get up to the 14th fret or so, you get a weird, chorus-y sound which makes the bass sound perpetually out of tune up there.

Because I had Thor (fretted AC6), I hardly ever played that far up the neck on my BN6s. But now that it's gone, I find myself looking for a way to make chords sound better on my BN6 so I'll probably be trying something other than Fbass strings on my BN6 in the near future.

Excellent, thank you. Not too worried about measuring, I have some great rulers for setups and a pair of digital calipers if I want to get all Type A about it :D

I'm really not a fan of colorful basses, all mine are either black or natural - but these blues are just stunning!

Beat me to it! :D

Man, oh man, F bass does blue right!

And yes, that finish is very durable. This bass is my go to tester for all new gear that comes through for review, so it gets played a lot, and the finish still looks brand new.:cool:

That BASS Is the best looking "BLUE" I've ever seen. EVER. The grain, the color, Awesome! I find it validating and comforting that your F Bass is the one that gets the first Demo's too. Very cool!

Yes, I think George and crew really knocked this one out of the park, though they do that with all of their blues, really.

Since ya like it, here are some more pics! :D
