If that red VF didn’t have a black pick guard what would be your second choice, asking because I have a red BN5 that has a clear pick guard on it now and thinking about going to a solid color,I can see all the crud that accumulates underneath it am getting tired of taking it off to clean under it,keep in mind the pups are red wood shells, that’s what is making the choice a little difficult.

That is a tough one. With the black hardware and black grain enhancement, black was my only consideration. If you could get somewhere where you could hold different ones up against your bass, they don't have to fit, just to get some ideas that would help. The only ones i can think of are maybe an Antique White, or Cream. Maybe a basic White or Pearloid Black and/or White.

I have to admit it... this bass sounds incredible.

I was playing a Precision with flats the last few Sundays - it sounded fine.

For last Sunday I used the BN6. Sounded good practicing in my basement studio... But live through my IEMs (se535s) it sounded just incredible and prompted several compliments from other musicians and bassists in the congregation. Regardless of the pickup or tone settings, there just that something extra that sounds amazing!

My main players include FBass BN6 and VF6-PJ Fretless, Fodera Emperor Standard 6, EBMM Bongo HS 6, Greg Curbow Petite 6, and Warwick Thumb BO 6. While I was playing with a few guys, I enjoyed alternating basses I’d bring to band practice. The guys always told me they prefer the BN6 of all my basses.

From your comparative list, my Thumb BO 6 is the only one I own. In terms of tone, the Thumb is more “woody” with the classic Warwick growl. The placement of the Thumb pickups also contribute to its unique tone.

I can’t speak for Spector quite yet but I’m waiting for a build. One thing I can tell you is that Spector models you refered to are neck thru while the BN6 is bolt-on.

Accurate to the T.

Update for my VF6 build. Will be ready in 4 wks. Here’s a teaser for one of the rarest builds:

LOVE that color! My car and my wife's car are both similar colors. I also had a sick Valenti S24-FJ5 was a similar color...

I miss that bass...

That VF is gonna be KILLA'! Congrats!

I still want a mono-scale fretted bass in my arsenal, so I would not rule out another BN5 to go along with this precious.

I really LOVE this bass! I'm honored to own it.

That red PJ VF5 looks amazing!!! Do you have a favorite of the three that you grab 'first?'
Thanks, they really do great work at the shop.
WhenI 'm recording, I almost always grab the PJ first and use it in passive mode with the P pickup solo'ed as a starting point. Then I'll engage the pre amp and maybe dual in some J as needed. Other than that, if I want a Maple board sound, am looking for something specific, or 'just because', I'll use the others.
