Club Fbass (thread 13)

How was everybody's Halloween Gigs??

I did a private venue gig, normally we do not do Halloween Gigs....but the owner was very happy!!...very relaxed type of gig!!

Cool. Usually I do the big dress up gigs at bars. They are usually pretty damned fun.

First Halloween in likely 7-8 years that I DIDN'T have a gig now that I think about it.

I was in the lovely Buffalo, NY being dragged around malls with my wife and my 2 year old daughter.:p

I did pick up my first FBass on my way home though. I have only spent 5 minutes with it, but my first impression is all positive.

Had a decent gig at a local bar here in NJ. The band went as Wizard of Oz, but I chose a different direction...

what kind of FBASS did you pick up Baird6869??
I bought bassballs27's fretless BN5. The black ceruse one with the diamondwood FB. So far so good. Beautiful bass and the tone seems great in the few minutes I have spent with it at home.

Looking forward to meeting the FBass folks next week as I am used to ramps on all my basses and need to swing by to get one measured up.

My first FBass and I live just over an hour from George's shop!

To build on my above post, this BN5 fretless (not a BNF5) is pretty damned cool.

I am doing a quick charity gig on Sunday night to benefit wounded Canadian soldiers and did a quick rehearsal with a band I threw together for the event. The F sounded great. Kinda cool that it worked as we are going to have some fun and do more of an '80's rock set.

The bass is harder to play in tune properly than my past fretless Benevente, EBMM, Rob Allen and few others for sure, but it does sound killer.

I love the vol/blend vs. vol/vol and the preamp is excellent. Sounds great passive as well.

I love that the output is very close to my fretted Fodera as well.

In any case, here are a few old pics as I haven't had the chance to take my own.....

Cool video, cool tune and the FBass fits for sure.

I am using a fretless BN5 for everything from the Eagles to Ozzy. The bass is new to me, but I am surprised at how versatile they can be.

BTW, your singer has cool stage presence. Reminds me kinda of Les Claypool.

I like the BN5 sound, IMO one of the best sounding preamps out there. Bass Central has the BN6 of my BN5 that I've been GASing over for a while. Just debating whether to get rid of the E5S or not. I've come to realize that I need frets (too lazy to woodshed at my age. I'm thinking the FBass BN6 is a little narrow at the headstock so a 6 might be doable. Still debating.

I loved my E5S and would have kept it if I could have afforded to. Resale is pretty high on this bass though, so if you moved it you wouldn't be in terrible shape. I found it tough to sell mine in any case. My guitarist actually preferred the tone over my mahogany Monarch Custom.

I have been playing my Monarch 5s and BN5 side by side a lot lately and the BN5 is a great bass. I think a Fretted Monarch will always be my main bass for rock cover gigs but the FBass will get lots of work for sure.

The neck profile on the BN5 is amazing. I prefer it to every bass I have owned (lots!) except maybe a MTD 535 I once owned, but the BN5 and MTD necks are pretty similar IMO.

I am lucky enough to be 30-40 minutes from FBass a couple of times a week, so I am going to drop the BN5 off in the next couple of days for a ebony ramp, setup and discuss fixing a bit of damage the previous owner did when removing the neck. Looking forward to meeting the FBass folks though... George and team have been great to chat with on the phone.

My BN5 is on the heavy side, but man it balances well....

Mine as it is right now is 10lbs, not any different than my EII, The funny thing is that the BN6 that Bass Central has weighs less than the BN5. I guess I got a pretty dense body. Tonally the BN series has a very useful tone and works with pretty much anything. Single coil mode with a bit of passive tone roll off and it just kills. The low B is really nice, more of an extension and not as diffuse as the E5S. The only thing that was a little strange were certain overtones on the B string as you play higher up the neck using the exposed core strings. I've got Elixirs on mine now, but I like the Fodera nickels, so I'm gonna try on the next string change. Congrats on the new addition.
