@KoaFodera...Just out of curiosity, what did you A/B against?
I can see why you'd want to reunite with it. I don't remember seeing it though.I'm looking to reunite with this bass: SOLD - FS ONLY! Fbass BN4 00!! | TalkBass.com Anyone seen it?
Is this your guys' video?George made two BN5's for us. This one is a sister to their NAMM bass. Virtually identical spec's. The non-solid top bass has an Alder tone block , also with a Koa cap on the back.

Here's the same bassist playing the same song, only this time he's using a Fodera. An interesting opportunity to compare the two basses -- remembering of course that the Fbass he is playing is one of 9 replicas made and isn't the same specs as a regular BN6 at all.
Yes, both sound great!thats an interesting comparo, given the same player and tune. The BN6 slays with that cutting and punchy tone! Wow.. It could be argued though that the BN6LE was designed and built with this kind of tone in mind, whereas that AJ Contra was almost certainly not. It would be interesting to see the same comparo on a 1st position fingerstyle groove tune.
The good news is that neither one sounds bad![]()
Yes, you remember correctly. When I first got my bass I HATED that preamp! I called George and asked him about putting an Fbass pre in it instead but he told me to give it a chance. I'm glad I did, because once I got to know it, I got to like it as well.Cool comparison, if I remember correctly those had an Aguilar pre, like Alains'? According to Marcel I have the same pups in my '99 under the HB shells but with the standard F pre. Do you still have yours ? Jim
Does anyone here use a BN5 as their main go to studio Bass...?..anyone had a situation where an engineer or producer asked for a Fender type Jazz and when they heard the BN they say "never mind. You're good."....?
If I ever ran into one of those engineers I would just pull out my 50 year old Jazz and call it a day but that says more about the prejudices of the engineer than any real tonal concerns IMHO. JimI don't do a lot of studio work, but, I've always gotten compliments on my BN5's sound and its tonal variety. It's a very clean bass for recording. For the first time, I'm going through one of those, "I need a '63 precision to make engineers happy" phases, but my BN5 can't be replaced in my opinion.
