That is basically what they were all saying. I don't disagree. I just prefer using my FBass. Although, I just started using my P basses and have appreciation for them now

Yup and that's why, with a smile on my face, I would just play my Jazz and know that it will sound great and everybody will be happy. That is of course if I didn't need the low B on anything. So I would bring the BN5 and my SR5 if needed. Interesting that in that thread the SR5 seems to be the most "acceptable" 5 string for studio work. I wonder if that's because it's been around for a long time and engineers are used to recording it, they have it dialed in like the Ps and Js. It's been a long time since I've owned a P bass, so if they required that I would hope they have a house bass. One of the posters said at the studio he plays a lot in they have a '62 Oly / White rosewood P for that reason, that just happens to be one of my favorite color/neck combos for Fenders, I'd be more than happy to use thatHonestly, based on my experience, a P or J bass seems to just fit nicely into a track because they have a smaller dynamic range. It's not that other basses wont work, its just that the bass sits in a certain frequency range, and if you have a bass that already sits in that range might as well use it. As opposed to EQing another bass until it fits. IMHO
Nice catch! Welcome to the club!Hi FBass'rs !

So I've following some threads about nitro finishes, especially one where the finish was damaged in the sun, and some are recommending along with polishing, applying a wax once a year to protect it from oxidizing or cracking over the years. Meguires car wax is mentioned a lot. Do any of you guys apply a wax, I polish mine with a lacquer safe polis but never waxed it. Yea or nay? JimNice catch! Welcome to the club!

Nice. I like how you placed your AC6 in the background for us to admire too.Hello Friends!I wasn't here so long
Check My Fbass video, playing my band's original song.
Years ago I bought some Ken Smith guitar polish -- I can't remember where I got -- probably Donovan at Fretspot.com or from George. The thing is, I've never used it, mind you, and all the finishes of my Fs are still fine, but somewhere down the line one of those knowledgable people recommended it to me so I'll pass that (sketchy) recommendation along as well.So I've following some threads about nitro finishes, especially one where the finish was damaged in the sun, and some are recommending along with polishing, applying a wax once a year to protect it from oxidizing or cracking over the years. Meguires car wax is mentioned a lot. Do any of you guys apply a wax, I polish mine with a lacquer safe polis but never waxed it. Yea or nay? Jim
My VF-5: (thinking of changing the pickups to the aguilar ones, what do you think? )

Yeah I remember getting those instructions with my bass when I first bought it. When the maple fretboard gets a little grungy looking I use Old English Lemon Oil which I hear is mostly mineral oil with a little lemon in it to clean off the gunk and it works great and has no silicone in it. But these guys were talking about an actual wax product like carnuba wax to seal the nitro on the body. For polishing I've had good luck with the Gibson polish in the orange bottle which is safe for poly and lacquer. I'm not too worried, after 15 years the finish still looks great and this is the older thinner lacquer that George was using back then. JimThis is from the F Bass site.
What should I use to clean the bass?
On raw wood such as a fretless fingerboard or bridge use pure "Tung Oil" which is a sealing oil, or lemon oil which is a temporary sealer/cleaner. Wipe off any excess from the instrument and wash hands thoroughly before eating. On the back of the neck use a slight dab of lemon oil well rubbed in and buffed out as a cleaner. If you wish to add finish, lightly steel wool with 0000 steel wool (very fine grade), and apply any wipe-on finishing oil that is commercially available following the containers' directions. On lacquered surfaces, use any guitar polish that doesn't contain silicone.
Why do I find myself wanting another Fbass! Had three and sold them and now regretting it. If I do get one it got to be the Studio 5.

I'm looking to reunite with this bass: SOLD - FS ONLY! Fbass BN4 00!! | TalkBass.com Anyone seen it?
Anyone?
