Club Moollon

New Moollon J owner here. It's a used one on its way to me now. That said, because of the wait time, I've been looking at alternative builders with the same ethos as Moollon, and a boutique bass dealer I'm friendly with suggested I contact Jon Maghini ( MBass ), who I will speak with later today. Has anyone played one of his P-Bass Vintage-style builds? Also, a one-man operation from start to finish, bodies, necks, and pickups on done on-site.
Looks like bridges, tuners on request, CTS, etc.
Just looking for feedback. His website features a Fiesta Red P, which looks pretty darn nice.

Yessir. Jon built a Classic P for me two years ago, and I still love it to death. It's incredibly comfortable and sounds even better. My good friend @600 Ohms compared it to one of his Moollons, and the feedback was extremely positive. Jon is fantastic and easy to work with, has incredibly high standards and will work with you on specs. Highly, highly recommend.

I was thinking of having Jon build my next bass, then after chatting with him on the phone, I was completely sold. Not only are his instruments incredible, he’s a genuinely great guy who goes above and beyond whether or not you’ve spent a dime with him. Keep us posted!

There Is a cable named snake head from rattlesnake that Is Made for basses with nitro finish. At the end It Made me go to rattlesnake because of it. And I'm glad I did.

So glad to be in this club! Picked up this beauty from Sam Monday lowered the action to my liking, and fell in love! I ordered a set of Labella LT Flats and put them on last night. Loved the sound this is the first time I had flats on a bass, obviously the feel is quite different than I’m used to. After work this evening ,a couple of more bridge adjustments and a few of hours playing I’m sold on flats!

+1 on the FLs! I had them on my PV and they sounded amazing but just didn’t feel quite right on that bass. Recently I tried them on my 57 AVRI Pbass (which has a Moollon P Bass pickup installed) and have absolutely fallen in love! That bass has had just about every flat known to man on it. Chromes, TIs forever, Sadowskys, Fenders, nylon but the FLs are it. Not as stiff as the FS or 54 originals, not as floppy as the TIs or Labella LTF. I’ve been playing them for my last couple of gigs and my Moollons have been getting a rest. I would have thought that the small gauge difference between the FS and FL would matter much but it seems to.

My P IV had EB Cobalt flats forever which I love but wanted to try something different so currently running Dunlop Flats. They are a lot stiffer and have a different feel, reminds me of Chromes which I’m not a huge fan of.

So I've had my Moollon for a few weeks...The playability is much easier than my '57 P but when I went deeper into tones, I found at a lower volume, the tone knob didn't seem to work until the last 15%. I found out that I have an "audio" taper pot (most modern basses are "linear") and YJ and Andi suggested playing with more gain on the B15 and when I did, MAN it's a totally different bass. Gain at 12pm, treble at 11am, bass at 1pm, and as they said, the tone is more gradual. EVERYTHING has changed with the tone pushing the tubes... It's saturated but the notes ring true and it has the mojo. It's been a pleasure putting the hours in and exploring tones to find the sweet spot!
