This my beef with the black also. Although it does seem that the Sadowsky black HW wears better than a lot I've had experience with.
I like chrome if for no other reason than durability.

If you are talking about Sadowsky basses then it is really going to vary. First go to the Sadowsky website if you are interested in what they have in stock on the site. If you are referring to a new build then shoot Kevin and email with a basic idea of what you are looking for. He's a great guy to deal with but don't let him know that I said that.

Depends on the bass IMO
I really like the gold on my Koa Standard 4 and I think even had it not been built as it was (with the gold on there) I would've gone with it anyway as darker figured timbers suit it.
Some do, some don't, etc etc etc
That's what I'm thinking. Also going to get a set of Sadowsky Single Coils, to replace the HC that are in it now. Probably have to wait until they complete the move over at Sadowsky to order them.
I put some of Ken Smith's 'signature sauce' on the fretboard (not sure what's in it besides lemon oil and YES I know that sounded filthy) which really darkened the wood.

You never know. There is a faction of Sadowsky fans who really dig the HCs. I have them in two of my basses. I personally love the tone, especially with the ash/maple combo. I've owned an ash/maple with SCs, an ash/maple PJ and now an ash/maple HC. I like the tone of this bass best of the three.
My alder/mor with HCs, the four string, is a little tame but still sounds great. I am contemplating now whether to try SCs in it, or simply allow it to have its niche. It has an awesome, mellow tone, but it doesn't have the cutting presence of the other two . Although, In a sparse mix, it would be quite lovely.
