Club Sadowsky!!!

One of my bands hosts a monthly blues jam
For this I brought my GK MB-Fusion and LDS 4x8, which is a compact house wrecking machine. Big, clean tone, and lots of headroom. PA was 2xBose stick/sub, for vocals, keys, horns only. This is normal for all three of my bands: "My rig is the house."

I ran the MB-F flat, and again ended up trimming the bass control back to about 9-10 o'clock to keep it from feeling uber thick.

Two noteworthy things from this gig:
1) I had the chance to let one of my buds sit in so I could hear the MVPJ5/rig from back in the room. It did not seem overwhelmingly fat back in the room, but rather "really dang good."
2) Guitar player for my band that night is the owner of my favorite studio in town. His comments: "That rig has no right to sound as good/big as it does at that size, that's unreal," and, "that PJ is sick. Big and fat, kicks like a mule, and maintains great clarity and definition. Bring that out to the studio next time and let's see what she tracks like."

I'm so used to the knife edge precision with which my JJ's cut thru a mix, the way the MVPJ5 bulls thru the mix is an acclimation required thing for me.
So, even though I'm still a little conflicted over whether she's a keeper for me or not, my bandmates and bassmates really like what it's doing.

One more gig Friday before my approval period is up...

My bet is you keep it (of course I am biased as I have a NYC 4 with PJ setup on order)!

3 of my bandmates have a side project (playing mostly instrumental funk) called Fried Oyster Cult. First gig was last night. Anyway, bassist uses a 98 Sadowsky NYC V4 through A Genz Benz rig (the little 900 watt head into a 4x10 cab). He really had a fat tone pumping out!

How lucky are those guys that they get Sadowsky tone in both bands!! ; )

I'd have to guess that while Chef's MVPJ5 is awesome, it's going to be heading back. Just a best guess. That is not meant to dismiss it in any way. I'm sure it's a great bass.

Chefs current arsenal of JJ basses he has paired with the P5 he has, cover all that ground. They just don't do it in one bass. So that is where the bass will either acquit itself or not.

When I want the sound of two PU's and/or overall versatility in one bass, a JJ always gets my vote. That's just 'me' however.

Big fan of what Roger calls Antique Shoreline Gold. In fact, if I were to order a bass, that would be the color. But, it seems that color is elusive to the photography. Having seen other photos of other instruments, I know Roger gets it right. But, these photos don't look so right - more of a copper hue to them. The actual color has almost a silvery green shade to it. Hard to describe, but I know it when I see it. My Marcus V has it.

I'm really one the fence with it, and it's a hard decision.

It much brighter, and a little deeper than my Lakland ash/maple P5 with the same Nord NP5 pickup.

The J pup solo'd sounds substantively different than my Sadowsky ash/maple MV5JJ, and overall it's both brighter and deeper than that bass.

I'm not at all sure what I'm gonna do...

I can't wait to see it in person, it is a tough color to shoot. If it looks just like the pic and is a little on the coppery side vs silvery green, no worries here!

My other NYC is Frost Gold. I'll have to try some good side by side shots.

To quote Austin Powers 3, " I love gooolllllddd."!
