Some of you will remember that I've had both an RV5PJ, and an MV5PJ previously.
Didn't bond with either, but, my amplification/speakers have changed substantively since then.

Hopefully, this new MV5PJ will stick.

Have you ever tried that set up with the reverse P? One of those if VERY high on my want list right now. My theory is that it will make for a more even string to string balance, with the D & G strings sounding a bit fuller with a tighter sounding B & E.

I have found that for P-bass tone, the sweet spot for plucking a P pup is just in front of the top section (or even over the top section if your thumb position is along the front edge). This means that you pluck the D&G further forward of the bottom section, which kind of balances the tone for me. If you pluck behind the P when blending in the J on a PJ, it becomes a non issue I feel. Otherwise, I really haven't noticed any drawbacks to regular P pup when changing plucking position. I even set my action so it's progressively lower from E to G because with higher amplitude of vibration on E & A, I find I pluck them a tad heavier than D&G because they're higher to avoid fret clack.(this is a very subtle thing & something that has become subconscious).

And then there was three.. I picked up the latest Sadowsky just a few weeks ago...It's an Original P-5 in Copper Metallic...
It plays great and sounds like thunder.. All 3 sport Brazilian boards and matching headstocks.. The Vintage Jazz 5 has the hum-canceling pickups while the P-5 has the single coils..
I was thinking of selling the PJ-5 because of the other two, but it plays and sounds amazing... It really nails that thick P-Bass tone, so it's not going anywhere... I may have to add a maple board Vintage Jazz 5 next to cover all the bases.. :D I have 3 pickguards for the P-5, the mint guard is on there now and I also have a tortoiseshell and white..

I think the PJ-5 may have been yours at one time... I got it from Rwider.. I had Pat Wilkens paint the headstock to match and also had him refinish the back of the neck to a thin-matte type... It's his version and it feels great...

Interesting. It looks great that way. Now it just needs the chrome pickup cover back on...;-)
