Club Sadowsky!!!

I received my Sadowsky pre-loaded preamp in record time from the fine folks in NY, and I had it installed today in my 1997 Fender Jazz Deluxe with the stock Shur pickups. Like my 1996, it sounds wonderful and is a great mix of Fender and Sadowsky. I would, however make the following suggestions for improvement, if I may be so bold:

  • Screw terminals, rather than short solder leads, for the pickup connections. This would make the bass completely user-installable.
  • Lengthen the battery and output leads. Neither were long enough to fit in my deluxe, and had to be extended by my tech (at added cost for the additional bench time).

Quick follow up on the killer NYC 5 that couldn't get low action. I took the neck off and found a shim on the neck side of the pocket. I cannot understand why somebody put it there, but thats what i found. Removed that, bolted back up, the thing is perfect.

Perfect.

I actually went to Kevin a few weeks ago and spec'd out a bass just like this. When this came into the shop for sale, the decision was easy.

I have a lot of basses, but my Sadowsky's are my favorites. I don't have to struggle to get a sound with them in live situations, and it's serendipitous that Roger's neck profile choices fit my left hand like the proverbial glove. I found the optional 18mm bridge more to my liking than the standard 19mm, but other than that these basses come out of the factory "race ready", to borrow KTM Motorcycles' advertising slogan.

That's the one that caught my eye as well. Luckily, it didn't have a roasted maple board or I'd have been in some trouble.

There's always someone waiting to mess up perfection just because they can. I've never been a fan of shims... they sure seem to complicate things.
Who puts a shim on a Sadowsky anyway? That's like putting a fart pipe on your Aston Martin.

I have a vacation week coming up in mid-February with nothing planned, so I may have to make the short drive across the river to Roger's shop.
