Pretty excited I have to say! this ones been a couple of years in the planning to add to the arsenal and it sure looks sweet!

I'm hoping the PJ will be a nice option tonally to add my two JJ Standards?

Thanks Kevin, Roger and crew!

Lovely. Even with the extra string.

Post your impressions and your own photos when it arrives.

I'm late to this edition, but still around. Work has been getting busier lately, and I'm studying for the March advancement test.

Here's my current Sadowsky-Metro M5-24

Once I get some bills paid down, after thinking about it for the last 6-8 months, I think a Vintage Maple-Ash 5-24 is in store, either natural or '59 Burst with a black pickguard. If the tax man is nice to me, that could be the down payment.

nice story; let me know if you want a club #.
:)

Hi everybody,

I have a little story to tell.

Back in the 90's I decided I was going to order my first custom bass to celebrate my upcoming bachelor's degree in music. I had almost no money given that I was a cash strapped music major at the University of Miami. I went through all my options at the time and made a real effort to play everything to figure out what I would order and who would build it. This included more than one trip to Roger's old shop in Times Square.

Well, I fell in love with the idea of something really expensive from Brooklyn. I decided I would parlay my newfound experience evaluating the best basses around into an internet buying and selling venture in order to flip my way up to the bass I had in mind. I began in ernest with a meager amount of money and found lots of basses for sale for less than they were worth. Eventually a Sadowsky Standard 4 with a tobacco sunburst quilted maple top and maple neck in mint condition crossed my path for...get this...$700. You can imagine how my eyes widened when I thought how much I could make reselling that baby.

The Sadowsky arrived at my apartment, and it only took a second to fall in love with it. It was so light and punchy, aggressive, and warm. I made the mistake of taking it to a rehearsal and a gig, where it killed (of course). Then I sold it with a little tear in my eye, thinking "I'm a 5 string guy," and ordered what was my dream bass at the time (which turned out great).

Lots of basses have come and gone. I have never owned another Sadowsky, yet I have always been haunted by that brief encounter with that tobacco maple 4 string. I've watched for it to resurface ever since.

Well, here I am two decades later, and I just bought the tobacco burst, maple neck, quilted maple top, Standard 5 currently in the TB classifieds. It looks like my old one, but with an extra string. I'm still a working musician in Boston, and I'm finally back in the fold. Very cool!

Congrats Andrew, another beauty in your "toolbox". I've worked the hell out of the PJ 5 I got three years ago...I'm sure it'll find a nice spot w/ your JJ's

Now this was a cool story, Welcome back!

Been a while since I've posted......

Don't know if I've ever seen one like this before:

Ash P body unchambered.

Modern Pickup placement

Unlined Ebony board with 20 'frets' (because Jaco only needed 20 frets......and didn't need a b string....but well that's besides the point!!!!!)

Heading my way later this week!!!!

Got this in yesterday and had some time to wank around on it.

As with every single one of Roger's basses I've owned (WAY too many, seriously I need to stop with the GAS), the acoustic response of this bass is amazing. Each note leaps off of the fretboard and I can feel the notes vibrate into my chest. IMO that's a large part of what makes Roger's stuff so great.

So I get home, plug into my rig (Genz streamliner 900 switching back and forth between a Berg NV215 and an Accugroove Tri112L), and the term 'Jaco on steroids' immediately popped into my head. If 'that jaco sound' is a delicious low-fat turkey sandwich of the finest ingredients, then this bass is a big ol' Pastrami on Rye from a NYC Deli.

Pickups blended?

Nice and neutral fretless tone that responds very well to hand positioning. I'll end up using this 90% of the time.

Neck PUP Soloed?

VERY Pbass-inspired. And I spent years on a fretless 78' Fender P.

Bridge PUP?

Like I said, big ol' fat and meaty tone.

Another added bonus is that to my ears this bass has more inherent lowend meat than any other Modern/M5-24 Bass I've owned (1 Metro, 2 NYC's with mahog and ash bodies plus ebony boards). Don't know if it's the ash/ebony combo in a fretless package, if it's the unchambered body, or if Roger just somehow knew that I like Roland 808-inspired B string tone.

Clips to come, and thanks again to Roger and Kevin and everyone else!
