I think the hybrid that my MV4 came in is both a perfect fit for the bass, as well as me... If I was gigging constantly, I may switch to something else... and yes, it's secluded away from my kids... I better call the wife, and check...

Oh my... I think I just added a little touch of awesomeness to the Sadowsky Secret Sauce. I've been trying to get that sweet spot as far as pickup height settings on my PJ5- something to make the P pup not so boomy - and I found the answer. The Broughton HPF pedal!!! Even at it's lowest setting (25hz), that scoop with the pickups centered is almost gone, and favoring the P pickup sounds so much cleaner. Not so woofy or barky but fat and round. It's probably not for everyone, but for those who think their PJ5 is too dark, I would give an HPF a try.
Have you set it up to Sadowsky specs? Made a huge difference with mine.
From memory (holding each string down at last fret, and using machinist ruler - cheap from Lowes/Home Depot, measuring in 1/64 increments):
B/A/G measured from bottom of string to top of P pickup pickup:
8/64 - 7/64 - 6/64
B/G measured from bottom of string to top of J Pickup:
6/64 - 5/64
Most tonally-balanced I've been able to achieve.
NOTE: STILL will probably check out that pedal.

Thanks to Roger for being so detailed with information online. I love doing my own setups, I was getting really caught up in a 64th here, a 64th there.. I was doing more tweaking on it than playing it.I mainly bought the HPF pedal because I didn't want to upgrade to the new Mesa D800+, I'm a happy D800 owner. It was the only option I felt I was missing with 2 of the Subway 115 cabs. Really tightens everything up. When I plugged the PJ5 in this morning I was blown away.
Like I said the tone I found may not be for everyone, but I'm a JJ guy at heart. This tone is closer to what I like to hear naturally, I guess the HPF just really tightens the overall tone without compressing things.
These are Metros as well if that makes a difference to anyone.
I have been keeping an Fdeck HPF on my board for awhile now myself. It does work really well - particularly in boomy or "loose" rooms.
I must say, this is by far the coolest hard shell case I've ever owned. Oh yeah, the new bass is absolutely killer as well!
I think matching headstocks make most basses look a little better.
Thanks, I think it's definitely an upgraded look. I've always liked matching headstocks with rosewood fingerboards, and black seems a little less common.

I was going to try some flats on my MV5. I've been happy with Blue Labels steels, but want something less clicky and with less finger noise and a bit smoother/warmer. I like flats, so was going to give some Dunlop flats a go. But, now I'm thinking Blue Label nickels might be worth a shot.
Would the Blue Nickels provide a halfway point here?

I found on my RV5 P/J the nickels once broken in are pretty warm and smooth along with the VTC if needed. They will still have a more aggressive attack than flats though.

I've never played a Sadowsky, and I've given my fretted and fretless Jazz Basses to a couple of my friends, so I'm Jazz-Less at this point. I'm going to keep an eye on the TB Classifieds, and hope for good priced used Metro.
