I really like the reverse P. Mine came with two pickguards and I switched them once but didn't like it.

I have a second pickguard set up for regular-P configuration, but my P/J 5 sounds soooo good with it set up as a reverse-P that I have never changed it.
I do need to do that someday...
For me, its standard P all the way. I hated the way the bottom strings sounded in combined mode with the reverse. It just didn't have that "I'm a P-bass" bottom end.
If I could have a bass that sounded like the "bass" coil of the PJ across all 5 strings I'd be a happy camper.
Have you tried the standard JJ with single coils? Much fatter and organic than the JJ with the HC's, and it has a bit more of the PJ vibe in that it will give you that fatness with both pickups on. Of course, it won't do the P thing with the neck pickup.
The Nord Big Singles in J position will give you even more of that, but move the bass even farther away from what many of us consider a J bass tone.

i'm not much of a classic Pbass guy in the first place, hence the PJ. but yea, your ears are probably better attuned to the classic P sound than mine.

Actually the other thing that gets pretty close, which I do have now, is the M5-24 panned to the neck pickup.
True, I definitely have a long love affair with the P, so when I was trying out the PJ I was looking for something with that same super satisfying fat punch. I finally decided that a JJ or Modern sadowsky with a little bass boost is pretty close, but you don't have that jump in sound from A to D.
Oh yea, forgot to say I'm back in club Sadowsky with a vengeance. Black/Maple M5-24 and a Natty MS4. Both kill!
I'll ask another question here that I just mentioned in another thread. I think UV70s used to be 9" radius, but now seem to be 12" according to the website. Is that correct, and when was the change made?

Welcome back! UV 70 4 strings are 10" radius and UV5 are 12" radius...Love them both!

In my experience, it does exactly what Roger says it does.
Gives the B string a little harder edge to the tone. More growl. Moves the pole pieces on the high side to the same center line of a standard Jazz pickup making the pops sound a little sweeter.
It's an improvement (to my ears) that's actually noticeable in a gigging situation.
All of Roger's basses are 12" EXCEPT the UV70 at 10" and the Ultra Vintage NYCs which are 9". i seem to recall that there is at least one Ultra Vintage NYC that is 12" maybe it was a custom order...not sure. The 9" radius neck is probably the most comfortable for me for some reason.. I don't know of it is sub conscious or what...
