The Eagle has landed!!! The lighting makes the Sage Green somewhat brighter than it is. There is almost a color-shifting effect. It seems much darker in person, add some light and the green just pops! This baby is light as a feather!! I haven't plugged in yet, i'm still trying to get my jaw up from the floor. Could be a while, I'm prepared for the long haul. The Gator case is SICK. Much higher quality than the case that came with my Verdine. So stoked right now! Many thanks to the whole @Sadowsky crew!!

Very stylish. Love the colour. :) One of the regular FOH guys for the corporate band I play in kept bugging me to bring out my Modern (I usually play a Jazz) because he loves that bass. So for this weekend's shows I played the Modern and was reminded of how great it sounds and how well it punches in a dense mix. A totally different flavour from the J but a lot of fun to play and, again, lots of praise from the FOH engineer. Rolled the VTC all the way back for the pre-dance cocktail set (standards) and it was perfect.

Yes. The main difference is, it can sound like a P if you solo the neck pickup, but it can't really sound like a J, since it's missing the J neck pickup. IMHO, it's kind of a "modern" sound, with the burpy J bridge pickup, and the fat woody P pickup tone. They have a fairly unique sound. I like them a lot, but prefer the JJ config myself. You'll just have to play one to see if it fits you.

A couple of pics of the new baby in sunlight. This is a more accurate representation. I threw some flats on her to see what that was like and.... it's nice - real, real nice. This may be a sleeper bass for reggae with flats on it. Two gigs this coming sunday will give me that answer. Upon closer inspection it seems the neck had shifted somewhat in shipping, there was a gap on the bass side you could see clean through if you held your finger behind it. Quick loosen of the bolts, a slight shift and now it's perfect. "Thump and Cut" is name of the game here..

I've used my Modern on reggae gigs (not reggae-ish gigs but the real deal where the sound system is huge and the bass is the most present thing in the room) and to me it works really well in that setting (granted, I tend to go for a cleaner, more Roots Radics-era sound than for a sixties/early-to-mid seventies vibe). With my Modern I can get lots of low end fatness and midrange punch while maintaining a tightness and focus that is perfect for reggae (even when the mix is thick the note definition is there). Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the bass after you've gigged it.

I love Roots Radics - my reggae band is very much in the style of Gregory Isaacs as well. We play Lovers Rock. I think you and I are on the same page, lol...

Yes. I own/love both, but they are quite different. I began to really appreciate the PJ configuration, when I stopped trying to make them “pass” for a JJ, and accept that it’s just a different awesome tone animal...and have both options available.

Satin series owners tell me what you do/don’t like about the finish

I’ve never been a fan of satin finished instruments because I felt they looked cheap. Granted these were not of the quality of a sadowsky but it’s hard to wrap my head around a high end satin. Does it show lots of fingerprints? What about sweat?

I have the opportunity to get a used satin and I’m on the fence vs a new metro.

I was never a fan of satin finishes and swore up and down that I'd never get one. I shared your thoughts exactly......................... until I saw one. It looks more velvet than satin, LOL! It's a rich, supple satin finish. After seeing and playing one, I immediately bought a Satin Candy Apple Red Jazz with a Tort PG and I love it.

I have owned Sadowsky's with gloss and with satin. Satin hides fingerprints, feels great next to your body and forearm. Maybe not for everybody, but I just dig the satin.
I also like Pat Wilkins satin finish. And I was partial to satin Spectors. So yeah, I'm kinda smitten, you could say. I'm selling my remaining glossy, a metro.

While on vacation in New York with my wife last year, I had the opportunity to stop by Sadowsky. I met Roger. I spent some time in the Bass room and was thoroughly impressed. I specifically went there to compare the Satin Modern vs Satin Vintage for myself. I preferred the Modern but that’s my personal taste. Your preference may differ.

They are super easy to clean, but as far as sweat and fingerprints - no more so than any glossy finished bass I've ever owned. In fact I'd say my old Fender 5 showed more "gig lumps" than any of my Satins have after a gig. One of mine is used and has been played so yes, there is signs of the satin smoothing out where I rest my forearm and from anchoring my thumb. But - big picture, its a tool and I use it.

I think the gloss finishes on the Metros I used to own actually showed more sweat, finger goo, etc under stage lights.

IMHO satin shows way less fingerprints than gloss. WAY less. many of my custom basses are fancy woods with satin finishes, i love that finish personally, at least for woodgrain instruments, tho i will admit if it's a painted color, or, if it's a highly figured top, i prefer gloss, tho i will admit those satin series basses look really good... better than i expected when i first saw one.
