i have flats on my '04 ash/maple NYC JJ5 and i just can't bring myself to take them off, tho that bass with rounds... omgosh... something special about that beast.got the flats on the metroexpress j/j and I had some foam laying around the house and shoved it between the bridge pup and the bridge. It's officially sounding exactly how I like.
Wow, even though this was released 10 years later, man, you can really hear the pedigree of production dating back to at least '93 with Donald's Kamakiriad album. Very similar!I just do a pick or thumb with palm muting on rounds to get a more thumpy and sedate sound of a Sadowsky. Walter Becker set some mighty big precedent with that approach. This sound should be immediately recognizable to any Sadowsky owner:
Thanks Fran. I’ve been on TB for years and this is my first club number.
I played the Sadowsky yesterday. That breathtaking neck was almost a distraction when the stage lights hit it

Be safe, miss you around here!In frequent poster these days… Driving full-time for ride-share of late ... so in response to everything, dating back to some time before now:
1) Roger's take on 'The PBass' is something special ... but has more sustain/clarity across the neck and is thus not exactly the same. If anything it's more usable, IMO/IME, with hundreds of gigs on my PJ5 in particular.
1a - Yes, flat-wounds on a PJ5 sound amazing, for just about everything. Reggae-posting guy, with his 'phatty boom-bat bass-mon from the eye-lond' demonstrates this adequately. I myself slap and tap and pop with aplomb, and yeah, not Marcus, but pretty cool.
2a- Yes, I need a German Metro ash/maple PJ5 again. With rounds, and in either blended/p-only mode, it's a slap machine. Oh baby, I need new floor-tile. Hook up that 2nd 112 and kiss me with your greasy mouth.
2) Muting is always a great way to go for me. Is 'cutting through' really important? To some people sure. To me, and for my gigs?
Not so much.
What about 'support the band with a chocolatey, springy low-end that doesn't spread so much that it overpowers', or alternately, having a tone where when they hear it at full volume, the band looks at you with this who farted face except like it was their fart and they're proud of it?
A lot of Roger's stuff will get you there with flats/muting/VTC rolloff/etc. Between my VTC and my Blend Knob, I'm less of 'a knob' on stage.
2a - for certain loud blues/old R&B, I have played entire gigs thumb-muting with my PJ5 main player, with Chrome Flats. Yeah, it's awesome. Motown to Baby Bass depending on VTC/right hand muting. It is always there in the mix. You can't 'bury me' because I'm the silk underwear you didn't realize you slipped on by accident. Ooh la la.
3) The overseas Sadowsky 'thing', and this is jack-knob in arm-chair musings, makes sense to me in this way, overall, and I hope they work production/workflow/qc kinks out:
3a - we're all blessed to have Roger, and crew, on this planet now, and for those of us who go to extreme measures to be able to afford it, we know it's worth it and we know exactly why it's worth it to us. That's not going anywhere.
3a - Hopefully, a hundred yeas from now when Roger goes to his 'heavenly plane/alternate reality/bocce ball tournaments and spicy cocktails in Sunny Boca every day' reward, players of all different income realities will know his sound/impact on music/etc. Pretty cool once it gets worked out.
4) All pictures of instruments have been extremely awesome to see whilst waiting for old people to exit their healthcare appointments. Thanks for that.
See you out there.

I've just noticed, this bass has luminlay neck side dots. Anybody else got these? My bass was an early order direct from Warwick.Got a few gigs in now with the German metroline pj...really liking itView attachment 4389690
I didn't find the charge lasted long after shining my phone light at them. I've ordered the proper Luminlay charging torch to try that, but I don't hold out much hope. Ironically I was checking this out as I couldn't see the side dots at gigs. I play small jazz clubs that don't have any back or top light, so the dots don't get charged. the true charging light will make them last longer, but keep in mind these are not meant to replace something bright like LEDs. These are strictly for the player's visibility in very low light situations like orchestra pits, where something like LED lights would be very inappropriate.I didn't find the charge lasted long after shining my phone light at them. The luminlay light will do better. A good 2 second stop on each dot will keep them lit for 3 to 4 songs. Then if you can do a quick sweep across them and they'll perk up for a few more. Once they've been charged it doesn't take much for them to be visible again in low light.I didn't find the charge lasted long after shining my phone light at them.
