Club Sadowsky!!!

I know I just got an NYC Sadowsky, but I am obsessed with this bass. I keep going back & looking at it. I mean, what’s not to love? P/J, roasted maple neck/fb, German Custom Shop, and it’s gold!!

Somebody talk me down off this ledge!!

I won’t be any help. I approve of that color, it gets a lot of complements as far as vintage inspired finishes go. This is my 2011 NYC, 7.8lbs

On the topic of 'Sadowsky tone combos that don't get talked about enough' ...

This mahogany-bodied, rosewood board Modern had the best finger style tone I've ever achieved live. That mid-forward pickup placement, with the rounder, softer tone woods, is really an amazing sound. Not enough sparkle for me in the slap department, but man, if I was needing a do-anything studio finger style bass, I'd find a way to launder bitcoins on the inter webs to come up with the cash-eesh.

I didn't find the charge lasted long after shining my phone light at them. I've ordered the proper Luminlay charging torch to try that, but I don't hold out much hope. Ironically I was checking this out as I couldn't see the side dots at gigs. I play small jazz clubs that don't have any back or top light, so the dots don't get charged. I can see the dots on my NYC jazz bass much better and they are just the standard inlays

I have a Martin Keith with Luminlays. Luminlays are a great idea in theory, not so much in practice. Even brand new they couldn't hold a charge for a full 60 minute set, and the "battery" got weaker from there.

As you said they work best under good stage lighting that alternates between bright and dim -- bright might recharge the Luminlays. Unfortunately, same as you I often play bars that stay dim all the time, which can mean frequent recharging (if I feel like bothering).

I'm not a maple-neck guy, but that is gorgeous! Sometimes a ledge is just a ledge...

Agree x 1. You just can't get the luminlays bright enough for a full set or whenever you want it bright. You can only take the luminlay as little help but not life saver and this is why I had LEDs installed on few of my main Sadowsky basses.

For the arena shows I play, production & lighting guys usually don’t give a sxxt on musicians at all , they blackout the stage whenever they wanted and you just can’t see anything, Also, they don't rehearse the exact lighting at full dress rehearsal as well. LEDs is definitely an expensive option but I already lost count on how many times it saved my gig/life instead of losing a gig becaused played something wrong.. lol

To me it looks like there are a bunch of ugly spots on the finish - dark spots here and there, areas where it looks fuzzy... Of course that could be my laptop screen is really dirty. In fact it probably is, but just in case it's not there's your excuse to say "No."

So are MetroExpress Sadowskys also allowed in this club? If so, I'd like entrance, please I already own one and its exact 4-string brother is on the way. I had the fiver in to review for De Bassist, the Dutch bass magazine, and I liked it so much I asked if I could buy it and so I did. Absolutely killer, this bass is. Light, resonant, amazing setup, love it.

Interesting, never thought of this kinda thing could be really "useful", not just "flashing" but I agree, a dark arena stage can be challenging. Probably because I wasn't too many times in that conditions...

Finally went for a Metro Express 4 JJ Fretless. Should be arriving tomorrow. Anyone know if the the J pickups in these are Hum Canceling or Single Coils?

(About the headstock logo, before anyone jumps me about it, not a fan of the metroexpress or RSD logo, so I changed it, couldn't get an original from sadowsky, so I got one and cut off the "guitars/NYC" part of it, as I'm not trying to "fool" anyone, just needs that iconic logo)

I'm always a bit suspicious about affordable 5-string basses but this B-string is great. Sounds like a "regular" string, instead of a thundering, boomy, floppy rumble.

Just got home to the Hurricane Ida fallout. My green NYC J4, my 2 Lakland P’s and my MK Electrici upright are all casualties Watching water drain out of the Jack was sad.

I can’t complain too loud as there are plenty who have it far worse, and 2 friends have significant impact to their businesses (one a School of Rock, so the autumn student season is hosed and fewer new musicians )

color me sad.
