Club Sadowsky!!!

I was so pumped to have finally got a Sadowsky. I posted last week when I got my MV5... Well today it got stolen!! :S I`m so %@&$ pissed off! It would have been the first time I try it with my band. We have an office band and when I get to work at 9am I put my bass with all the other music gear. After 5pm we all get together and jam all night....but not tonight...my bass was gone! Somebody had a lot of balls to come in our office which is all open concept and leave with my bass while there is people all around... I can't believe he got away with it without ever being seen from on of our staff...(like 10 guys working on computers right there!)

Hopefully the guy is stupid and brings it to a pawn shop. Not many Sadowskys here in Ottawa so it should be pretty easy to spot...but I may never see it again... :S

Nah, not really. There'll still be PLENTY of that amazing quilt visible, and at least IMHO, the pickguard completes the vintage J theme, which is at least important to me, and in fact (again IMHO) compliments the quilt as well.

Here's mine as an example. The quilt is really quite nice, and I don't mind that guard on there at all.

+1 Ditto. I was initially torn as to whether or not I wanted to cover up this quilt, but I am very happy with the end results:

I still hate you a little every time you post that retina-frying PJ5... definitely one of my all time fave Sadowsky basses EVER. DAYUM!!

You know I have "dibs" if you ever... wait... what the heck am I talking about... never happen... unless a flying pig starts slingin' snowballs in hell's back yard, anyway... :D

I've never been a fan of fancy tops.
So, I'd totally pickguard it as it's the only thing that keeps those basses in the realm of a "normal" looking "traditional" bass to me.
Without it, to me, it just seems wrong somehow.

To me.

ymmv, and it sure is nice to have all these choices.

On basses that aren't P or J shapes, like the Modern5, the fancy woods seem more acceptable to me and my clear antique biases, which I understand are purely mine;)

Chef, Not only yours. For me there is nothing as beautiful as a sweet piece of ash or even a nice alder blank.

I can see the beauty of those exotic tops, but they don't belong in a bass (...of mine, just personal taste here).

You and Ken seem to be pretty much in the same camp on this. I actually like both equally, though most of my collection currently is the more traditional look, and I'm perfectly happy with it that way.

Eeeeeevery once and a while I see one of them coffee table topped basses and think "dayum, that's sweet."

I missed one in Sadowsky's preowned section I would have actually purchased by about 10 minutes.
It was a suuuper sweet cherry burst over quilted maple over ash. Dunno what it was about that one that hit me, but I did actually like it enough to have my credit card out.

It's very rare that I look at such a thing and think I actually like it enough to own one.

Well, keeping in mind it could always be bid up by whomever is watching it, if it does actually sell for close to that price, that does seem particularly good to me.

You can't read the S/N so no way to tell how old it is, but that probably doesn't matter too much considering he says it's pretty much mint except that one ding on the board.

The fact that it's also just under 9 pounds would be a plus for me. I love that weight for a J bass.
