Club Sadowsky!!!

I just gotta say this again.... d*mn I LOVE Sadowsky basses! I had rehearsal last night and we run a silent (electronic drums and everyone on headphones) rehearsal and this bass just kills! We have elec drums, sequence, guitar, keys and 3 vocals and my bass still cut through and sat so nicely with everything.

I also got our live recordings from a gig a week or so ago and this bass is just 100% perfect for me. It has the perfect blend of smooth fat fingerstyle and in your face slap sound that just gives me total eargasms! Roger, you and your crew are truly amazing at what you do. Big thanks!!!!

Pure IMO there.... just personal taste versus 'better or worse' of course:). However, too many busy design elements can start looking a bit chaotic in an absolute sense also IMO.
Heck, I know... but you KNOW I couldn't let you say that without giving you some crap, right? C'mon... :)

+1 A bit too much bling for me with the perloid. Just like tort with a highly figured top, just too much going on visually that IMO doesn't work with the grain of the ash and clearcoat. IMO there. White with the clear finish, or mint or parchment with a tinted clearcoat is IMO just perfect for that look.

I put the tort p/g on mine...didn't even put the screws in.
You're right, just way too busy.

Hell, I have no p/g on there now. Waiting for a clear to come from Chandler.

Speaking of picks and grooves. Listen to the beginning of "I'm a man" from Chicago.

You can get some really nice grooves with a pick and a P-bass. As long as the bass is a Sadowsky!

I hate to admit it, really I do, but I do kind of dig the whole flats and pick sound. I have been listening to a lot of Beatles lately, and PM gets some really sweet tones on some of those recordings.

nice,

anyone second this?

I second that. The Madagascar looks very different (almost 'red'), but the tone and feel are quite similar to me. Also, the Madagascar picks up the red in the more 'red tort' guards that Roger uses. Nothing prettier to me than an olympic white bass with madagascar RW and the reddish tort guard... it all works together beautifully.

I think Madagascar is the RW Roger recommends if you don't want to pay the rather hefty upcharge for the Brazilians. I had very good experience with that board on the Sadowsky Vintage i owned.

I have Morado on my Metro and BrRW on the Modern. The basses are quite different tonally, so it may not be fair to compare along those lines, but to me there is absolutely a difference in terms of feel.

The BrRW board is MUCH smoother and even slicker -- almost as if it has significantly more oil content in the wood. If you use any bending/vibrato at all, you notice it immediately. The morado FB is very well done, but it is a bit more abrasive as if there is less oil in it.

I have considered using something on the morado but decided against it. It's nice, just not nearly as nice as the BrRW.

There may be something to be said about the fact that the morado is a metro and the BrRW is an NYC. I don't really know how much of it is the wood itself and how much is the finish effort put into it. But, again, there is a significant difference -- at least comparing my two basses.

I don't know. I had morado on an older NYC standard J4 (1991), and it was really beautiful, very smooth, and in no way rough. Have you tried using Hydrate fingerboard conditioner on the metro with morado?

No. Not that product, but I have thought about using something on it. I'll try to remember to snag some to use the next time I have the strings off.

I think someone posted this up before, but what the heck. Just got my Bass Player magazine. Front cover and primary interview... Ricky Minor with is Sadowsky. Primary non-cover interview... Greg Lake with a Sadowsky in the main interview picture. Full back cover photo spread ad.... Tom Hamilton... with his hybrid Sadowsky P.

It's literally an infestation:D

I don't have it here @work, but wasn't Tully Kennedy (Jason Aldean) also sporting a Sadowsky in that issue?

hmm...

i'd think that braz would be more articulate, no?

Humm.. I'm not sure what you mean by articulate.

One thing I didn't mention is that I agree with the idea that Mad is as close to Braz as can be. And the difference is very subtle.

With the combo of body and fingerboard type of wood. I found my Mad/Ash to be more "articulate" then the Alder/braz. If we agree on the meaning of articulate.

On the other hand, I don't think morado should be consider for let say someone who use to own a vintage fender J alder/rosewood and want to be as close to this sound as possible. To me it meets more the maple side of things. And no! I'm not saying that Morado sound like Maple.

BIG +1!

I LOVE morado/pau as a fingerboard... actually, one of my faves, but it is NOT A ROSEWOOD, not in the Dalbergia family at all, and it doesn't sound (to me) like any of the real rosewoods.

IMHO, it's "somewhere between" maple and ebony (if that helps). Great board, but just not faithful to the 60's rosewood deal at all.
