Cool color combos?

I personally hate tort gaurds unless they are on white or black. How does a black gaurd look on red? And also, should i add any inlays?
Stick around this forum long enough and you'll come around to the tort guard.

I used to hate them too. Now I think they look pretty dang good on olympic white, lake placid blue, and black basses.

Now sunburst basses...I still hate those.

No pics, but a serious case of GAS that I have right now is for a Squier VM PJ Bass in Lake Placid blue. I would want the headstock face painted to match the body, and then swap all the Chrome hardware for upgraded black hardware (Bridge, tuners, string tee etc...) I think that would look awesome. Rosewood finger board of course...

Not a huge fan of Maple for finger boards here. Not sure why, just not my thing...

That Heritage Cherry Sunburst Ibanez posted earlier in this thread is drop dead gorgeous...

Of course natural wood finishes can be pretty awesome too...

No disrespect meant at to the OP but I never get these kind of questions, unless you just want people to post pics of their basses. Who cares if I have a sunburst P-Bass with a white PG. You guys would hate that but I like it. Grow a pair and ROCK the bass you want to rock not the one a bunch of guys on TB say you should. :bassist:

Yeah, actually, in my defense, the point is pictures. I want to get a nice bass, so i want it to look nice too. Just in search for cool pics to give me ideas....

red or black bodies anyone?

Black, white, and tort pickgaurds, blocks? (I can add blocks later)

Or sunburst with black pickgaurd, no blocks?

Not mine, but looks pretty cool:

vs white guard, I prefer black:

I think Sunburst with black pickguard looks good if the fretboard is very dark (i.e. ebony, ebanol, etc.)...otherwise, I prefer Tort with Sunburst. For a red bass, I think it depends what color red. The dark red's that have a black tint to it (i.e. midnight wine) goes well with a black pickguard and rosewood fretboard....classy with white blocks. If it's a red without the black tint, then I felt the gold pickguard with a maple neck went best. Black would work as well but would've required a rosewood neck...IMO. I have a stack of pickguards that I went through to decide which would work best....as always on these types of posts....YMMV....it really comes down to your taste

It may be heresy around these parts, but I agree. Now, if it were translucent…y'know, the way actual tortoise shell is…I could dig it. However, to me, the common "photo tort" is a dreadful representation of a very cool artistic motif.

Personally, I prefer black guards. It's like a black suit, or the classic Little Black Dress…it works with just about anything and is always chic. Don't believe me? Then check it…

…and for another example of black-on-red…

And for the record, I am a tremendous fan of painted and/or matching headstocks. Sadly, they are not the most common animal in the Fender line-up. However, Squier seems to have more than a few, which tells me they get to be a bit more "experimental" than their bigger, Fender brothers.

...thinking of the gold.....

OR the black on red

With maple

now the question is.....
red or black body?

sunburst is out

Red body, black guard, leave stock white, or go gold? Inlays?

Black body, Tort, black guard, inlays?

/This isn't mine, but i love how it looks. I would need to mod a few thing from a mim, which i don't know how to do, so that means sunburst is out/

Sounds like you're narrowing down your decision.....

Yeah I'm getting there, haha

I kinda feel either opposite my white and white p with rosewood by going black and black j with maple,

But i also kinda feel color

so idek ^

I hate black with white pickguards, but i don't mind red with white pick guards

My main choice here is bass color, i can always change the guard, or add blocks later

Red or black, just thinking up my options
